Quilting, Hand & Machine

Handful of Scraps, quilts, Wagon’s West (dresden plates)

I think I am done with the quilting for Butterfly Parade – I could possibly put in more, I’m going to look at it for a day or two and see if I feel like it.   I do like it as it is right now though so I probably won’t and just move on the binding.

The back – rectangles instead of squares – something different.  If I do more quilting it would be to make those rectangles in to squares but it really isn’t necessary is it.  The rectangles measure 1.25 x 2.75 so that should be enough – I am using wool batting and it said 3 inches apart is needed.  For those that use wool do you think I should put in one more line?  I have’t used it much.

Wagon’s West was rolled down the other day and I got more done up to the sashing on the last row of blocks, I’m about half way across that  2nd to the last row right now.

And one more hexie flower finished for Handful of Scraps.  I had been working on it here and there over the last couple days.  Somehow I counted wrong and had more hexies basted for this one then I needed – 4 more of the brownish color and 2 more of the light blue – I will incorporate them into another block later on.  I have a lot of neutral hexies prepped right now so I think next I will attach the section on the top that is pinned to the wall and then start the next big neutral area to the right where the orange diamond and the new hexie flower are.  Right now the widest parts are about 32 inches x 34 inches.

Storms did come through Arkansas on Thursday late afternoon in my area, the wind was horrible the trees were swaying this way and that but nothing broke.  All the trees and their branches are still there.  Our area had the bad wind for about 15 to 20 minutes, very dark, but very little rain.  Power went out in numerous areas around us but not on our road.  Off to the east in the Little Rock area about an hour later (yes it moved that fast for 85 miles) a tornado was sighted, lots of power outages and tree damage but it sure missed our small area once again – knock wood!

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Looks great, love your rectangles. I might use your idea on a charity baby quilt I have to finish up later this week.

I think the quilting looks wonderful! So glad that you didn’t get anything worse storm-wise.

Love the quilting on Butterfly Parade! The rectangle quilting is great…still simple design, but gives it an updated look!
Wagons West is coming right along, as is your Handful of Scraps!
So glad the worst of the storms missed you….

I was wondering what kind of quilting frame you have and did it come with the little shelf for your thread and scissors

Karen, I love your quilt.. I hope you don’t add more stitching … I will also say what a stellar job I see in your machined semi cross hatch.. I recently did this and had puckers in several places where the lines crossed… not sure why other than my own lack of machine quilting ! ha 🙂 Yours looks fab.. the wool batt will make it poofy where not quilted… looks like that would make your butterfly wings jump off the quilt too! LOVELY!!!!
Loving your progress made on Wagon’s West and your handful is getting bigger bit by bit! 🙂 glad you missed the most of the storms… we are just hot and humid… no rain to chat about! lol

I’m glad you were spared the ravages of the storm that moved through. We had storms move through here Wednesday afternoon, and thankfully like you, we didn’t lose power nor did we have any damage.

Are your rectangles more than 3″ wide? I’ve never used wool, so I don’t have any advice for you, but other than the 3″ recommendation, I don’t think the quilt needs any more quilting. It looks fabulous.

I love how you quilted your Butterfly Parade. I’m certainly not an expert but the quilting looks perfect as is. I have been away for almost a week and have missed seeing your progress on these quilts. Beautiful.

The rectangles look good, and considering the size, look done to me. I do love seeing your works in progress!

We had storms Thurs. and Fri. night, and they flattened my flowers. 🙁 We had a lovely summer day yesterday, but today it’s humid again. More storms coming. I know they’re nothing like what you get, though. Guess it’s all good sewing/reading weather!
