Handful of Scraps, quilts, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier

I have gotten back into the hexie trap again – once you start it is addicting.  Handful of Scraps had a lot of neutrals added yesterday morning.  I have been working in between the pinkish color hexie and the green one on the left side.    I have not yet figured out how I will finish this quilt as I don’t really care for the border pattern of applique that came with it and with my lack of interest in applique the last several year it would never get done.  Hard enough time to finish the applique border for the Postage Stamp quilt!!  I might enlarge it by continuing with the hexies in some way as it grows and grows.  Maybe a zigzag pattern in some way with little hexie flowers scattered.

I took a little break from neutrals later in the day — Vicki from Colorways  by Vicki Welsh mentioned after seeing my scrappy bricks quilt that she should make one with her hand dyed fabric.  For some reason that set a bell off in my head —  I all of a sudden remembered winning a large envelope of scrap hand dyed fabric pieces from her last year (or the year before?) where the heck did it go to – and why hadn’t I used it before now.  And there it was rolled up in a bundle on the shelf on top of some other fabric – somehow I hadn’t seen it for awhile – dumb right!  I decided right then and there to add that fabric to the stack I am cutting hexies from as it goes perfectly with these solid type of colors that I am using for some of the hexies.  Aren’t they beautiful – really – how the heck had I over looked them?  I am linking to Quilt Fabrication: Midweek Makers today.

The yellow center and the coral type of pink/red are now cut and basted for the hexie flower that is needed on the lower right under the diamond shape pieces in the top photo.  Just a little more to baste.

I added to the stack of scrappy bricks yesterday afternoon also – progress is moving along on those bricks.

Just a little quilting got done on The Final Frontier – I am not putting in my one to two hours a night while the Olympics are on but I am finding time to sit and do a little here and there.

Our heat wave is over but it remains very humid outside the A/C stays on.  The weatherman said that next week we will cool off even more and have 4 days of on and off rain, maybe 3.5 inches or so.  Don’t need that much! but the cooler temps are welcome.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

That’s so funny about the hand dyed fabric sitting there all along ! 🙂

You are making great headway on those hexies! We sure could use some rain up here. It’s been hot and humid, but our corn is so thirsty!
