A More Productive Day

Handful of Scraps, Postage Stamp Quilt, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier

Even though I worked outside yesterday morning Mike didn’t really need me to help with anything in the afternoon and I got some sewing done – progress!

Handful of Scraps – one large section of neutrals done – pinned to the wall not to the main part of the quilt.  The next area will be at the bottom of the design which I need to do another large section of neutrals.

This is as it is now.

SAM_3828

The area of neutrals done but not connected to the body.

SAM_3829

the next area to do the neutrals under the blue diamond and a row of neutrals around the green flower – somehow I forgot that.

SAM_3830

Two leafs and the blue flower completed on this cluster of the Postage Stamp border – once I sit down to work on it, it goes really quickly for me – so different than needle turn applique on cotton.

SAM_3832

The whole cluster – the dark pink flower will be next – embroidery on it will be in a bright color – perhaps the turquoise.

SAM_3831

The witch and pieces for the Halloween tote bag – traced onto fusible.    I am really not sure how this will turn out  LOL – doing it by machine – I will need to get my other machine out and see if I can get the zigzag stitch to work – it seems like the last time I used the machine I had trouble with it – maybe seeing as it has sat its bag for months it will behave properly now!

SAM_3835

A little more on Final Frontier.  I will be joining the slow stitches at Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching with the wool applique I’m sure at some point today.  Also linking to Quilting is More Fun than Housework.

thanks Kathi – I didn’t realize wool embroidery could be fun – I was never really attracted to it until fairly recently – hexies quilts too – I don’t know why until a couple years ago – maybe because the second quilt I made was a hexie – hand pieced – seams were off all over the place and it turned out awful (40 years ago)

I think your Hexie quilt is just amazing! Thanks for the close-up view! Do you hand stitch to baste them, or glue baste?

I am thread basting the hexies – I tried glue but had a hard time removing the papers that way

I see your enjoying your hand piecing again. I love the cream shirtings or small prints you are using in the hexi quilt. Are they from one line or just scraps?

I am using several bundles of neutrals that I had in fat eight/fat quarter sizes – one is called Lakeside Gatherings by Primitive Gatherings and the other was Butter Churn by Kim Diehl I am also using other pieces on my shelves – I refer to them as scraps because they are not yardage and several styles

I love that border! I now can’t wait to work with the felted wool I have picked up on this trip- and even found some more choices- yay! I was outside Des Moines and saw that the little town of Winterset had Iowa Quilt Miseum- so close had to go- some really pretty quilts in there! Wish there were enough time to hit Missouri Quilt Shop as that wasn’t too far but had to move on.

Your hexie quilt is so pretty. I am looking forward to seeing that witch bag. Somehow I don’t think your zig-zag will have fixed itself but you never know. I just adore the fabrics in that circle quilt.

it wasn’t the zigzag itself that wasn’t working well it was the tension I need to clean the machine, change a needle and thread out and see what happens!
