Book Review, Applique and Quilting

quilts, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier

My fabric arrived yesterday for my small snowman wall hanging that I plan to do – yes I do have room for a small wall hanging in the dining room on one side of a window – I have a quilt cupboard on the other side of the window – I don’t want a large hanging on one side as it might not look right on the wall without one on the other side of the window. Most of my pieces are now in place.  The holly berries will be added later and there are some tiny leaves and berries to embroidery on later also.  The embroidery embellishment always adds so much to it – the leaves will have veins added also.

I work on The Final Frontier almost every night here are a couple of the circles that I love – the puffiness that the quilting adds I love as well as all the colors in these squares/circles.

This was the area  I worked on Tuesday night.

Other than pining the applique pieces down, I got one more hexie flower done for the medallion quilt and quilted in the evening like usual.  Didn’t do a whole lot more besides that – I am reading a Jack Reacher novel and I do believe his books are getting worse with each one I read!  This one is not holding my attention – it is called Make Me by Lee Child luckily I borrowed this one from the local library’s kindle selections and didn’t waste any money on it.  I liked his books at first but this one is #20 or something like that and sometimes when an author gets to that point I think they should stop a series and start a new one – thumbs down on this one.  One big bone of contention I have with this series– now made into movies starting Tom Cruise as Jack Reacher is that Tom Cruise is known to be about 5 foot 6 inches – kind of a small guy really – in the book Jack Reacher is about 6 foot 4 inches and 240 pounds of muscle – they really couldn’t match up an actor better to play this part?

I love how your snowman project is laying out… love the linen fabric you bought for backing and FAST shipping too!!! Nice 🙂 Glad you have a seasonal spot picked out for this one!!!
Your final frontier is looking totally fab!!! Great job on spending time each day with it!
I read some of Lee Child’s early Jack Reacher novels… I think there is a movie or some tv show coming out too! Sorry his last novels aren’t as captivating…
Hope you have a great day there! Kathi

I can never say enough good things about the Fat Quarter Shops fast service – of course it might help that they are in Texas and I’m in Arkansas – the shipping gets here fast. I was able to cut the piece I got in 4 so I have enough for 4 wall hangings all the same size. yes there is a second Jack Reacher movie out – they are based on the books but do not follow it super closely

thanks Deb – I loved working with the Fossil Ferns collection so glad I got those big packs of charm squares when they were on sale – 100 pieces for the $12 was a steal of course I had to get more than one pack but what a beautiful quilt it has made.

That little snowman wall hanging is going to be great! I love it already, and you haven’t even done any stitching! Once you do the appliqué, I know you will add some great embellishments….
I love all the variety in Final Frontier….you have made great use of the fabrics in making some really cool, interesting blocks! I have enjoyed so much following along on this quilt’s journey!

thanks Sandra – I have to find some more thread for the snowman before I start stitching – I have no white believe it or not 0r black! I need to remedy that today with a run to Hobby Lobby for embroidery thread

Your book review is welcome… so I want to highly recommend an author I just discovered.. Susan Branch.. non-fiction.. pages filled with quirky watercolors, quotes, recipes, how she recovered from a California divorce on Martha’s Vineyard, learning she could make it on her own… with the help of three kitties and gradually selling her artwork.. plus the books she loves… the songs she listens to and sings along with, quilt fabric she designed. Being 90 now, I am so grateful that I love books, cooking, and stitching.

I totally agree with you on Tom Cruise playing Jack Reacher. It’s not at all believable!

I’m glad someone agrees with me on that – I don’t understand the movie industry’s thought on casting a total opposite to play a character.
