Handful of Scraps

Handful of Scraps, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier

Thank you all so much for your lovely comments on yesterday’s post for the Postage Stamp quilt – I do love the quilt too!

I managed to get one of the two neutral areas that I have finished for the hexie quilt.  I will work on the other section this week.  This area as you can see needs to be attached.

The area to the right of the red “flower I got done and then I noticed I never put a row around the dark beige type of color on the right.  I will first attach the big section then get that neutral area finished before I cut out more colorful hexies for more big flowers.  Quite a way to go on this quilt still.

I thought all I needed was  a new lightbulb for my Ott light that hangs over the left side of the quilting frame but it turned out it was the fixture that was bad!!  My light bulb came and I tried it and no go – tried it in the other one and it worked.  Saturday I went to Hobby Lobby to find a replacement and they didn’t have the old kind of lights that I had and I found this new one – now I want to get a second on to match – I love it.  It gives off a ton of light.  So the moral of the story is if your lightbulb doesn’t work if you another lamp that the bulb will fit try it before you get a new one!  EDITED:  As you know I write my post in the evening and then schedule it for early morning well I hadn’t tried sewing to that new light yet – and –  it is too bright!!! it hurt my eyes – I will not be able to use it at the frame – instead I will trade it out and take the light that was above the  cutting table and put it on the quilting frame and put this nice streamline light over the cutting table instead.  The light that had been above the table had been much the same as the other one on the frame and I guess they work best and you can angle the light in such a way that it is not too bright for the eyes.  It might not have been what I wanted it but it will be best in the end.

Considering you can move it on it’s flexible range I can easily get half of the quilt lite up and it looks so much smaller and less invasive!  I will be linking to Quilty Folk later this morning for the Final Frontier for Quilty 365 and Love Laugh Quilt.

The older fixture is kind of big – the new one looks so much better so streamline – Hobby Lobby only had the one though so I wait for another to come in or order on line.

Craftsy’s new web site has launched – if you haven’t checked it out you might want to  – they are offering a code for $5 off of $25 at the top of the web page just use the code they give to apply it to purchases.  The code expires October 7th.  I really like this new web page that they have although I have not had time to completely explore it.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Loving your Handful of Scraps project progress… looking GREAT! I am sorry your fixture went bad.. but I do love your new one… does Ottlite offer a warranty on their fixtures you think? I just use gooseneck lamps with “daylight” fluorescent bulbs that use minimal electricity to use… I use them for everything now it seems! lol I do have 1 ottlite… it has yet to die on me … I have had it a long while though.
Your Final Frontier all lit up looks great too! Kathi

I don’t know if there is a warranty – these are not real high price – I always use my 40% off at Hobby Lobby which puts them around $30 or so – and I’ve had them for so me years so no warranty left I’m sure

Wow, you are making quick work of all those hexies!
I love the pattern layout you have of it on your design wall.
Sorry to hear about your trials with bulb replacements and lighting.
It really can become involved searching for the right lighting for various tasks.

yes and I never even thought it was the fixture that was the original problem – I’m not sure how long I have had the fixtures attached to the quilting frame – probably longer than I think I know I have gone through about 3 set ups in the past almost 20 years that it has been since I got the frame.

I looked at the picture of the finished Handful of Scraps. You’ve made a lot of progress. I’m going to take on a hand work project or two soon.

    Enjoying the progress!

thanks – I am not planning to do the applique border on this quilt and I’m not sure how I will be finishing it up at this time but yes a bit of work still to do

Wow – you’re making great progress on those hexies Karen! I gave up on Ott lights a few years ago when the expensive one that I bought died just out of warranty. They said I could pack it up and mail it in for repair, but it was so bulky and awkward, it seemed like too much work. I’d read online about so many others having problems that I decided not to get any more. Other light fixtures last forever, so I wasn’t too happy! ;-D

I probably won’t be bothering with getting anymore special lights – I have had these for some time though and I’m not sure how old the one was that bite the dust
