One of Those Days

quilts, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier, Williamsburg Beauty

I had plans to do a lot yesterday and instead I barely got to anything on my list – it was just one of those days.  My main plan was to start digging up a flower bed but it turned out to be too hard and dry!  Instead I put the water hose on it and gave it a soaking – maybe I can do today instead?  We will see.

I was going to get a lot of my diamonds done to get that border on Williamsburg Beauty going and I did get some done but not near that I had planned.

I must admit the reason I got sidetracked was Rebecca’s fault! it you stop by Quilting Everyday – a blog from Alaska where there is snow on the ground already you will see a 16 patch star pattern that I decided was perfect for my box of 2 inch squares!!  I had to get my box of scraps off the shelf and decided this well be a leaders/enders project – except that rarely works for me – I usually just start making blocks.  One 16 patch block done how many to go?  I will add the half square triangles later (star points – could be a flying geese unit instead) – I will have to figure out what size those are unless some already knows?  The squares in the corners are plain 2 inch squares to go with the 16 patch size.   I’ll just keep this box on the floor by the machine and work on them as I feel.  You can see a close up of the quilt on Rebecca’s blog.  (these are easier to piece than the 1.5 inch pieces were – amazing what a 1/2 inch can be like.)  I might decide that all the star points can be different colors and just finish one block at a time – very scrappy you know that is how I like things.  I am linking to Quilt Story today.

I did roll the Final Frontier down on Sunday night and got a little bit done on that side and more last night as well.

A pumpkin has been picked up for Halloween – yet to decide how to carve it – or leave it plain?  A fairly good size but not a jumbo.

We went to supper at Chili’s last night and I must say I am disappointed with the place – I used to like the look of it and the food – now the new modern look has no appeal – I loved the southwest décor with all the hanging baskets/plants and copper pots around, the ceramic tile tables – now – blah! and what is with the food – no matter what you order you get the same crappy rice dish (my opinion) as a side – sorry I don’t like the taste of it.  It is like everything taste the same just has a different name.   They had been changing the menu up for several years now and I have been disliking it with every change – now we finally have one in our little town and I could now care less!   Oh well one less place to eat in our tiny little town unless you just want a hamburger – but there are better hamburgers at a place we go to specifically for that!

I wonder what I will get done with today!

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Just look at that neat little box of scrappy squares. You put me to shame. I had the bright idea to organize my messy stash yesterday and became so overwhelmed, I just stuffed it back in the bins, secured the lids, and piled them back up in the closet! XO

I should take a photo of the scrap boxes under the quilting frame – those are like yours – stuffed in the boxes LOL – I keep saying I need to go through them and cut and put in boxes like this nice neat box and never get to them – I will try to do that tomorrow if I remember!!

I made one of those 16 patch star quilts in brights on a white background a few years ago and raffled it off for the library’s children’s room. I made flying geese for the star points – it was quite easy and people seemed to like it. I think I used 2″ squares also, and I think I got the pattern on Eleanor Burns’ website.

Being rural, we don’t have many chain restaurants here either (just Applebee’s and McD/BK/Subway) so when we are in the “big” city or traveling, we sometimes go to them. They all seem to feel the need to change their menus, unfortunately, and eliminate the things we used to like. Visitors to our town like that we don’t have chains, and thank goodness there are still restauranteurs with the courage to start up new places.

we have a few other restaurants because the small town we are near is right next to the interstate – the town is only 27,000 though so it doesn’t have a lot – mostly fast food, Cracker Barrel, I need to try to get Mike to try some of the smaller independent places but he is kind of fussy – usually it is Coltons for steak and I am no a steak eater and get tired of that place – I can find something to eat but generally do not care for it.

it is a cute easy quilt and I will be able to use a lot of my 2 inch squares for it and when I fell like sitting at the machine I will have the box handy and make a block as I feel like it

I haven’t eaten at Chili’s in a long time, but I agree with you that all those places seem to taste the same. We are becoming so homogenized in the United States that it’s hard to find someplace where regional cooking is done!!! The food looks delicious on those commercials but tastes meh!!!! I love in northern Virginia, close to DC and unless we go to an ethnic restaurant, we are eating the same ole – same ole!!!

you can travel from state to state and you see the same places to eat every where!

I hope today goes well for you, Karen. Nice pumpkin 🙂

thanks Summer! it is going smoothly today!

My goodness your scrap box is so organized! I am the same way about leader/ender projects. I just keep going on them. I find it easiest to just chain piece until I can’t then cut the thread. I wish I could, but it just doesn’t work for me.

I have made two blocks now in between other things! – I don’t know why I can’t do just at the start and stop either – I will show my other scrap boxes tomorrow – the ones under the quilt frame that are stuffed and not neat 🙂

I am planning to organize a bit more on the closet… and get back to quilting!!! So excited to think about it too!!!
I love the sounds and looks of your new piecing project… your diamonds are looking terrific even if you didn’t get as much done as you planned… hope watering will soften your dirt some for tomorrow or today as it was! Lol
Gorgeous pumpkin… you could paint a face on it then cook the inside after Halloween. Carving shortens their life a lot it seems… keep up the stellar progress on final frontier… postage stamp will be going on soon it seems. Hope tonite your dinner is more enjoyable than last nights dinner out… thanks for the heads up that Chili’s has changed so much. We rarely eat out! Kathi

I’m finding more and more that I like my cooking better than eating out. Maybe it’s because when I enjoyed eating out I was working. Since I have retired, I have more time to make dinner. I still like IHOP for pancakes though.
You have made some good progress. I have a table runner all basted and ready to quilt, but have I touched it in a week? No…I have no clue what I am afraid of! I need to get it done and sent off to my sister, it’s a late birthday gift, I’d like to get it sent so it will miss the Christmas package rush.

we do not eat out near as often as we used to and most the time it is stopping to get a hamburger and fries! we do not have a lot of good places around here to stop at. I love pancakes too! steady progress yes but as soon as I get the next quilt on the frame I will take a week off and let finger tips heal.
