A Little Clean Up

Baking/cooking, Handful of Scraps, Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier, sewing room

My sewing table had gotten to the point once again where I could not even think of cutting fabric for the hexies nor getting the accuquilt out to cut the hexies!  A little clean up had to take place.  I see a few things hanging on the ruler hanging that I might have to pass on to others – I don’t use those plastic hexies and never have! why did I get them I don’t know – a few patterns hanging there to remind me they are there and I have no plans to make them right now!  It will soon be time to go through some things I think.  Anyhow I got the table cleaned off as much as I could and got more hexies cut and put in the storage box ready to use.  (I think I actually remembered how to put the photos in to enlarge them by clicking once or twice on each photo for you all that have asked if I could do that – I think it is working)

Sewing Table

All of the Halloween pumpkins – one large and two small got baked and cooled off Halloween night after all chance of treaters was finished.  Then yesterday I got around to putting them through the food mill and grinding them down to pulp – 10 cups – 4 bags 2 cups each for Thanksgiving Pie and two bags one cup each for something like bread, muffins etc.

Work on The Final Frontier was continued and progress made – still a bit to do though.  When I get to the very end of a quilt I unpin it from the back railing and pin to the batting  – this keeps me from accidently quilting it to the feeder fabric – I pin the feeder fabric to the batting so it will still support my laptop as I watch Netflix while quilting.

The Final Frontier

The work with the pumpkins seem to take forever and took up time so not a lot of other work was done.  Today is helping Mike with some cement work again and laundry – housework too? we will see.  One diamond was appliqued in place on Williamsburg Beauty but no photo forgot!   Seeing as I needed to take that quilt off of the wall so I could work on it I put the Handful of Scraps back on the wall and rearranged the hexies that were not sewn in place still.  I have three more sets of hexie flowers cut out ready to baste and get to work on.  All but one are going all the way across the top – I see I forgot one on the lower left.  I had taken them all off the wall and then pinned differently to see what they were looking like and forgot it.  I am linking up to Sew Fresh Quilts today and Jo’s Country Junction and Quilt Fabrication: MidWeek Makers and My Quilt Infatuation.

Your hexies are coming along beautifully! And I have never thought about the pumpkin processing. That’s a great idea!

I do it almost every year and use the pumpkin for the pies mainly

That is quite a lot of work and much to show for it with your pumpkins indeed! 🙂

I have been doing pumpkin like this off and on for years – hate to waste those pumpkins – over the years though I have taken more to drawing a face on instead of cutting them- they don’t spoil as much that way if it has been a hot October

it will be about 3 1/2 months when I get it off the frame – I started appliqueing the circles a year ago this month

The edge of the frontier is in sight! Thanks for sharing your tip about getting to the end of the rollers! Are you working the hexie project from a pattern or making it up as you go? Pretty!

the hexie project that is on the wall is from Edyta Sitar’s book Handful of Scraps – I like that name so it is what I named my hexie quilt – there is a pattern in the book for it – I don’t care for the border that she has for it though – appliqued – it just doesn’t seem to go right with it to me. I might just make more hexies to make a big quilt out of it and no applique
