Houston, Texas? Hello!!

Somehow our car seemed to have a mind of its own instead of turning for home after my eye doctor appointment yesterday it headed south – to Houston!!  2016 International Quilt Festival here we come!!!  That’s right I’m going to the quilt show this morning.

Earlier in the week I had mentioned the quilt show and Mike asked “did I want to go” well what is a girl to say to that?  How about “of course and are you serious honey – you know if I go to a quilt show I will have to buy something!” – asked Melanie “can you look after the house” “sure thing Mom” everything was taken care of after Mike got on Price Line and found us a wonderful 3.5 star hotel for under $50 a night!!

My home for the next couple of days  – hotel room about 15 minutes or so from the convention– We drove down yesterday from Little Rock after the eye doctor appointment which went well – the swelling in the retina is going away and the vision in the right eye is getting better, next time I see him end of December and keep using the eye drops until then.  I thought it would be a longer drive but it was 8 hours or so.

The traffic was horrible for the last 45 minutes last night on our drive – we got to our hotel at about 8:15 – Mike actually lived here back when he was in high school about 50 years ago! My how time flies.  The last time we were here was back in 86 – his family had long ago moved east and had not lived here since the 70’s.

So I have no quilting to show for this morning – I brought some sewing along but my eyes were dilated for a good part of the drive and I never got it out.

We are seeing the show today – as much as we can this is – Mike is a good sport about quilt shows  – but we both do it pretty much the same – we look, wander, see things and move on.  Take plenty of photos also.  We will see what we can and I’m hitting the vendors last so I don’t have to carry things around all day.  After awhile it is quilt overload – there is just so much you can take in and then the vendors – !! It is like you want to grab everything in sight and know you can’t I found a list of vendors and wrote down what I want to find and now lets see if I can.

I’m not sure what we are doing Saturday and Sunday but I’m sure we will find something – might drive to Galveston and walk on the beach/boardwalk if the weather is nice and we feel like it or we might just stay here in the city – we will see – I will be checking in but not answering all the comments like I normally do but well answer when I can.  I will take a few photos with my phone so I can post a few here on the ipad which I am using for the next couple days to blog –

How fun! I hope you have a wonderful time. Quilt shows are a little disappointing to me these days — I love hand quilting and it seems to be increasingly rare. I was really disappointed to discover that my favorite quilt was machine quilted. Oh well — it’s very inspiring anyway — Have a great time!

Have fun! I went years ago. If you find something and plan to go back later good luck! Buy it when you see it.

Went yesterday. Eight hours are never enough. Your Dear Jane should have been there, but there are some pretty ones there. Enjoy the show!
