Late Posting

quilts

Not real late posting but later than usual I know.  Yesterday wasn’t such a very long day but traffic was horrible.  There is so much road construction going on in NW Arkansas that driving the last 20 miles to my destination can be so slow going and adds an extra 30 minutes on to the drive easily.  NW Arkansas has been in a continual growing progress for over 20 years and doesn’t seem to want to quit and the roads have not kept up to it.   (I actually prefer to drive in Little Rock than Bentonville!)  When my family moved there back in 1971 some of the  towns were literally a crossroads with one stop sign – now it is nothing to see hotels, Wal-Mart, box stores of other sorts and restaurants and business cooperation head quarters like Wal-Mart (which has always been there) but also J.B. Hunt and Tyson Foods and now home of the Crystal Bridges Art Museum which has gained recognition world wide.   My dad would have never moved there if he had know how big it was going to grow – he never saw the expansion of the area to the point it is now as it has been over 20 years since he died.

Well enough grumbling of the horrible long drive – I spent 5 hours on the road driving round trip and about 4 hours visiting family.  It will be awhile before I do that again and hope the road construction that was slowing everything down will be done the next time I drive there.

The quilting on The Postage Stamp quilt from Wednesday’s  night progress brought me up to this point  – I started in the center and then went to the left of the frame to get a feel for what I wanted to quilt when I first started out – sometimes I continue to quilt like that for the whole quilt and other times I start on one end and go all the way across.

When I got home on Thursday evening after being so very tired out I just took the two little Scrappy basket squares to the living room for some easy stitching and watching tv to chill out.  The square on the right is done the left has the handle left to do.

I’m sure I will get back to normal quickly today and get some work done I want to get the binding machine stitched to the front of the Final Frontier so I can start on the hand stitching part of that and get it done.

Today I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Busy Hands Quilts:Finished or Not Friday, & Crazy Mom Quilts.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Traffic can be such a hassle . As to expansion, in my county, driving up Route 19, you’d pass one mall then a few antique stores or restaurants here and there for 20 minutes until the next mall. In between rolling farmland and lovely scenery. All gone now. Horrible…strip mall after strip mall after strip mall. I hate it.

when my mom and dad first moved to Arkansas it was one tiny town here and there and countryside and cute little downtown areas – now it is a mess of traffic and too many cookie cutter houses and mcmansions – the person that grew up there and has children can no longer afford to buy homes – prices have skyrocketed. The area that has grown so much now that you can barely see a blade of grass used to be large open fields for miles.

You are so very lucky to live so close to your family. Our closest relatives are an 8 1/2 hr ride each way, our farthest is 3 days away. I agree that construction makes it tiring. I love the postage stamp quilt, the border is perfect for it.
