No Stars Yesterday

Postage Stamp Quilt, Stitchery, Williamsburg Beauty

After two or three days working on stars it was time to take a break and do something else!  I worked on appliqueing diamonds on Williamsburg Beauty and finished that part!  Now next is to add two or three plain borders and some circles on all the diamond joints (where the diamonds meet to cover up some sloppy stitch work)  yes circles – I used too much glue and wash away applique sheets for these diamonds and the result was too much stiffness and resulted in messy stitches and they weren’t all placed exactly the right distance apart.  I know it is mainly I that will notice but there you go.  Here she is ready for the next steps!  Yes I am kind of determined to finish this one before the end of the year.

Another one that should be finished is this little wool applique picture for the dining room – this one won’t be quilted – I am just doing the stitching, maybe put a padded backing on it, a picture frame and call it done – but a lot of stitches need to be put on it – I think this one will be sitting out for the next couple weeks to get it done.  I haven’t touched it in weeks and really pretty much forgot about it.  Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Sew Fresh Quilts ,Jo’s Country Junction and Quilt Fabrication: MidWeek Makers and My Quilt Infatuation.

Finished this last edge of the Postage Stamp on Monday night and it was ready to roll down on Tuesday night and get started again.

My Black Friday shopping arrived in yesterdays mail – I ordered quite a few packets of 5 inch charm squares in the Boundless brand determined to try them out and see what they are like and so far from touching them they are a lot like Kona cotton – I haven’t taken the plastic wrap off of the Boundless Batiks but they sure look pretty too. I am also determined to learn how to make a pair of socks and got the Cloudborn yarn to give that a try.  Some white yardage of Boundless to add to my backgrounds stash and that was it.  I will be sure to let you all know what I think of all of these – from late November through December is when I normally pick up pieces to add to the stash – the best sales! (and a couple packs of primitive gatherings – almost forgot)

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

Nice additions to the stash! I love the color of the yarn! I knit socks on 2 circulars – just too clumsy for double points!

well I have never tried socks but I’m going to give it a try – don’t know when will get started but soon?

I love the way that bright blue pops occasionally around your Wmsburg Beauty!

that is actually a purple but is showing up as blue in the photos

I’ve been meaning to comment for a while now. I can see the break on stars cause you have done quite a few already. And making great progress on quilting, seems to be going fast. I like the idea of framing the snowman block, that will look cute. You did score on some pretty charms and love the color of yarn….yummy. Looks like its going to get cold here this next week, perfect for sewing.

yes it will be chilly – no outside work most likely in the near future – I did mulch leaves again yesterday with the riding mower – one more time will be needed I’m sure – I will hope for a warm day!

Williamsburg Beauty is set alive and glowing by the addition of the diamonds…. just as they are.. at least as they appear to be in the pics. Your industry amazes me… so much in progress as well as being planned.. and doesn’t that make an interesting life !

thanks Maxine – if I showed the diamond points close up you would see what I mean about being uneven – there is no rush with this quilt so adding some circles is what I decided to do to cover those places up – just my choice 🙂

  • Deb Nov 30, 2016

I think the circles are a great idea and will look as if you designed it that way on purpose, even though you let the secret out, haha!
This is such a beauty !

well I just wanted to share “how to cover up mistakes” some quilters take mistakes too seriously I think and do not need to undo 100’s of stitches and have a complete redo!! Just sharing my experience on how to fix your mistakes instead of tossing it in a plastic tub saying your upset with it and never want to see it again 🙂 LOL we all know I do not consider myself a “serious quilter” I want to use my quilts

the sales are great this time of year – I get a lot of my hand quilting notions now too and stock up on all my needles and leather stick on thimble pads and things like that too, sometimes can get for half price that way

Karen, I love the idea of putting appliquéd circles at the points of your diamonds…I know you said that you are doing it because some of the points don’t match up perfectly, but I think it is a great additional design element….looking forward to seeing that come to life!
Love your “happy mail”!! You got some good stuff! I have been a knitter since I was a teenager, but I have never tried knitting socks… Will be anxious to hear what you think about the process…
Remember I said I wasn’t going to decorate our Christmas tree until this weekend….well, guess what….I did it today! We set our tree on a piece of plywood so that we can set up our model train around the base of the tree (nothing extravagant, but we enjoy it a lot)….well, my husband brought the plywood up from the basement, and so I went ahead and did the tree…. I always dread it because our tree is not a pre-lit one….putting the lights on can be so aggravating! And I had to take a few breaks, but it is all done…. Needless to say, no stitching of any kind took place today!

Williamsburg Beauty looks awesome – there’s so many things to look at. And loving those colors on Postage Stamp. Thanks for sharing your updates on Midweek Makers – I love seeing how your projects are coming along.

thanks Susan – Williamsburg Beauty is about done now – now to make 24 circles of one size and 4 larger ones for the cornerstones – glad to be at this point!

Between the Williamsburg Beautify and the postage stamps, I see you love both traditional and modern — which I’m recently discovering about myself too. I’ll be following your blog more closely for inspiration!
