Scrappy Quilts

Postage Stamp Quilt, scrap quilts

So many of my quilts are scrappy quilts – I like to make use of the tiniest of pieces although I am not as obsessed with saving those tiniest of pieces any more, a little more gets tossed in the trash now compared to what I used to save – by that I mean I might have actually been able to save a few more 1.5 inch squares than I used to LOL.

yesterday I got busy on the Scrappy Stars and made good progress.  I showed 11 stars in the last photo of them laid out and now there are 18 of them!

One more Scrappy Basket – these squares are 6 inch squares – the pattern called for 5.5 I think but I wanted a little more room to work – I might cut them down to 5.5 or I might just leave them as is.

You haven’t seen this one for awhile – Williamsburg Beauty – it has been neglected once again so I made last evening while watching the news to applique a couple more diamonds in place – 2 sides done! 2 sides left to do.  This one will be worked on this week I think as I should be able to get the applique done in a week or so if I just put my mind to it- then 2 or 3 more borders that will be plain and it will be ready to quilt.  I will be working on some of this applique today for Kathy’s Quilts: Slow Sunday Stitching and Love Laugh Quilt.

Another major Scrappy Quilt!  The Postage Stamp quilt has been rolled down and quilting has begun on the little pieces.  I am linking to Quilting is More Fun than Housework – she wants to see what you do with your scraps!

Zig Zag through the squares and a line down the middle of the white pieces – the end pieces you will notice are not all even – they are wonky so that I could square these up to 10 inches I think it was.  That is ok, there will be a line up the middle no matter what size they are.

Thank you to all who have ordered through my links to Craftsy and Accuquilt – I surely do appreciate it and I totally understand that not everyone can order or wishes to order that is why I try to always put the advertisement at the bottom of the post that way anyone not interested can just stop reading here— Clicking on my link cost you nothing but gives me a little bit of a commission if something is purchased – my quilt supply money – thanks.  There is no need to apologize to me as some of you have done in private email – we all have different budgets and favorite places to shop —  totally understand – due to a budget is why I do this advertising!

Check out Craftsy – the sale has started!!  Sales runs through Monday at midnight.  Some things are already out of stock.  All Classes $17.99 or less.  All Supplies and Kits on sale up to 70% off.  If you have not tried Craftsy’s new Boundless fabric line now is a good time to try them out – try the charm squares at very low price they also have a new yarn if you are a knitter called Cloudborn – perfect time to try these new lines out to see if you like them.

And don’t forget AccuQuilt is having the lowest prices of the year running now as well.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I like the quilting on your postage stamp quilt. I don’t see marking on the little squares, are you just eyeing them? The star blocks are looking good too. I especially like the fabrics you are using for the star points. Blessings, Gretchen

I am just eyeballing the marks on the squares and lines – small enough to do that when not big open spaces for me.

I love the colors on your scrappy stars. It gives me an idea of what to do with all my 2.5 inch squares I have been saving.

thanks Jayne – I really like the stars and instead of this being a couple years in the making I think I will be making a lot of stars over the next couple months and get it done!

I think the stars are the main one I am working on right now – I need to find a good show to watch today though seeing as it is chilly outside today and sit and applique diamonds on the W.B.

Those quilts are all so very pretty. They are all scrappy, but quite cohesive.

thanks Cathie – I have really been working on the fabric that is on my shelves and the scrap boxes this year – it is amazing how many quilts can be made from scraps and background fabric

Love those scrappy stars, Karen! The fabrics you are using for the points really bring the blocks together….
The quilting on the Postage Stamp is great….I really like the zig zag quilting on the little scrappy squares…..
Happy to see Williamsburg Beauty….your appliquéd diamonds add so much, especially with the two-fabric background for the diamonds…
No sewing for me today….did a little bit of yard work this afternoon and started on our Christmas decorations….wreath on the door and candles in the windows….won’t decorate the tree until next weekend….we will have a couple of rainy days this week in Virginia, so they will be good days for getting some appliqué done….I really miss it when I don’t do at least some type of hand work each day…..

I have been appliqueing diamonds off and on today and have one side left to do! I think the zig-zags suit the little squares pretty well and no marking needed a plus. Decorating here will start in about a week I think.

I enjoy following your quilting progress. The postage stamp and scrappy stars are just the kind I like to make. The Wedding Dress Blue blog has several scrappy tutorials using 2.5 inch squares should you need inspiration.
