Squared and Binding On

Quilty 365 – The Final Frontier, scrap quilts, Stitchery

The Final Frontier is coming to an end.  Yesterday I got the dining room table pulled out, cutting mats taped together and got it squared up – then the binding was machined stitched to the front and hand stitching commenced!  The room had such a yellow cast to it yesterday morning – we had a cold front come through – when I first got started on this is was raining a little and the sky was darn right yellow – then it turned gray and very cloudy and rained.  The yellow disappear from the sky and we had a half inch of much needed rain – and the temperature dropped – was 68 in the morning when we got up at 46 when we went to bed.  (Usually if the sky is yellow you think bad tornado weather but that wasn’t in the forecast – just a cold front and rain coming through.  Between the lighting in the room and the sky the room looked yellow.)

When I did my stitching on the border I drew a white chalk mark 2 1/2 inches from the inside border and did not quilt beyond that – that was my line to square up to.

Melanie came over last night for supper and some more binge watching of the Walking Dead – we are on last years season still – this is the piece she is working on off and on – a large table covering.

A close up of her stitches – I put my metal stick on thimble next to it so you could see the size.

Two six inch squares with baskets complete – I will be trying to do 2-6 a month or I will never get done.  Linking to Tweety Loves Quilting today.

Looking through some books a week or so ago Melanie came across this quilt that she really like and thought she might make some thing like this with stitches – not sure just an idea for now – no pattern in the book just the photo.

It came from this book – one of my older ones – copyright says 1991.

Wow! I am in awe of Melanie’s embroidery skills. That table covering is going to be a beautiful heirloom. How ambitious she is to think of making an embroidered “quilt” like the one you showed.

I don’t think she would intend to do it quilt size if she ever gets to it. The table covering is about as big as she would do I think and she doesn’t work on it all the time, lots of small projects in between.

I have that very same book…picked it up for something like .50 at the local quilt show last year. Her stitching is amazing; what an heirloom that tablecloth is going to be.

I know the light that you are talking about…it’s an eerie sort of light we get here sometimes after a rain storm…occasionally a rainbow will follow.

I occasionally pick this book up to look through the old photos but I don’t think I ever made a quilt from it but I did get an idea for one once from a photo in the book. Melanie does wonderful stitching for sure.

Wow, the picture with the quilt on the table is just great! Amazing light that enhances a wonderful project! The cross stitch project looks stunning too! It’s fun to browse through books and magazine for inspirations: I never follow patterns there, but I get great ideas that then I mix up my own way. Thanks for sharing your work!!

your welcome – I really need to put a stack of quilt books out on the table and look through more often and rotate them out – I have many I know I will never use and should give them to the library.

Hi Karen – I spotted something on facebook that I wanted to order from Craftsy, and thought I’d go through your link so you get whatever little credit you can for it. I couldn’t find the link on the sidebar of your daily blog, though, so I had to go back until the last time you specifically posted about Craftsy and linked to them. I’m wondering if the button accidentally disappeared and you might not have had any reason to notice it? Just thought I’d mention it in case it wasn’t intentional!

Sarah I don’t know why it wasn’t there when you looked – do you have an “ad blocker” on your computer? if you do it might be blocking it from my side bar – I have a big orange circle that says craftsy and the square ad that says kits 50%. Thank you for looking for the last sale though to go in through my link – I do appreciate it.

Baskets are cute. I hope you get to make up to 6 basket blocks a month. The table cloth is stunning.

Karen I see that you have the basket craze!!! LOL they look fantastic! I too love my older books and look for them when I go to quilt shows and visit the members boutique. I love when quilters want to purge!
