A Little Binding

scrap quilts

ACHR10181Yesterday I got started binding the Hopscotch quilt – half way done with one side.  I will try to work on it every day to get it done.   A long way to go.  I used a polka dot Riley Blake fabric that I had left over from a backing of another quilt.  Probably not a good choice as the polka dots are showing up as half or quarter circles and some places not at all – but there you go – it was left over fabric that needed to be used!!

We are going back to cold weather soon!  Saturday is supposed to start at 62 degrees and drop throughout the day ending in 19 degrees!! Talk about a shock to the system!! Sunday is 30 and 17 OH Mama that is cold!!  I don’t think there is a chance that the forecast will change all that much by the weekend.

Ciera’s hat grew – at this point it isn’t hard to do, later I will have to figure out what point to start to decrease rows to have it cup the head right.

I work almost every day on the Postage Stamp quilt and I rolled it down the night before last and Monday night I started the 3rd row of blocks. There are 10 rows.  I am linking to Sew Fresh Quilts today and Jo’s Country Junction.

Mike found out he will be going back to his contract job earlier than thought and it will be back to work for him the first week of January for 3 to 6 months.  We had  already made plans to begin a remodeling of the sewing/computer room. With him going back to work it means most will need to be done on the weekends.   Everything will need to be boxed up and some things will be moved to the living room and some to the dining room – A major reshuffling so he will be able to work on the floor – this also means I will pin baste whatever is left on the Postage Stamp quilt and work it in a hoop.  I have a Grace Square Hoop stand that I will use for quilting – it works out rather well, I just have no use for two frames in the house nor the room really so it has been stored in the workshop for some years – I will need to dust it off and put it back in use.

What sort of things do you plan to do to your sewing room? Maybe move a wall to get more square footage? Lol

no walls to move – it is a small house – mainly just level the floor and get rid of carpet, paint maybe take the closet out

That binding looks so cute and Ciera’s hat is awesome. Cold ? We are to go to around 7 degrees tonight…not sure if we’ll have a wind chill or not.

Love the polka dot binding on Hopscotch, Karen! I remember seeing that fabric as a backing on one of your quilts….
You are getting so much done on quilting the Postage Stamp quilt. You will be at the half way point before long!
Ciera’s hat is looking great….I love that yarn. It has been a while since I did any crocheting…. I did do some knitting last Christmas, but none since. I really enjoy knitting, and I should do it more….one more thing to add to the list, huh? Oh well….
We are expecting warmer, rainy weather next weekend here in Virginia, but before we get to that, we will have a couple of really cold days and possibility of some frozen precip…. UGH!!!! ….at least Sunday’s warmer weather will melt anything that falls before then. We are not even to the end of December yet, and I am ready for spring! I used to love the winter, but the older I get, the less I care for all that cold weather….

LOL – I know what you mean – overall I do not mind Arkansas winter all that much but by that I mean low’s in the 30’s and highs in the 40’s LOL 🙂 not true winter to anyone that lives in the north for sure. And really for the most part of our winter that is what we have.

The cheerful fun binding just suits the quilt. Good choice.. … Your energy is amazing.. and your life seems to be pretty ‘perky’.

    • Karen Dec 14, 2016

perky huh – sometimes I feel like I am dragging! especially at this time of year when cookies still need to be baked, cards put in the mail and deciding on last minute gifts

The polka dot binding is so cute, kind of just peeking out. The postage stamp is coming along, a little at a time. I really enjoy handwork in the evenings. It sounds like Mike and you have a lot of work ahead of you, but in the end it will be beautiful. Have a great day.

now to find time to sit down and work on binding – just got back from Wal-Mart – a couple hour event – I couldn’t get some things at the Neighborhood Market as it is smaller and do not carry all so had to bite the bullet and just chill and relax and take my time as you know you can’t rush wal-mart at this time of year

Congratulations on the finish! The dotty binding looks fabulous. Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

It’s fun to see your hand-quilting again. I had to laugh at your Lazy Day post and then how you immediately retracted the title to say it wasn’t really a lazy day. You get so much done EVERY day — I can’t imagine you even coming close to a lazy day!!!

thank you I am beginning to like the dots better now also – when I first folded the binding over to stitch I could barely see any of the dots but that is sporadic.

Hopscotch is looking good, I kinda like the half circles, gives the binding some character.
