Too Many Projects Going On Here

Postage Stamp Quilt, quilts, scrap quilts, Williamsburg Beauty

Thank you all so much for the big response yesterday to the give away – it continues through Wednesday morning when I will select the winners with the random generator.  Leave your comment at this post if you want in.

Saturday was a miserable wet dreary day.  It drizzled rain all day – that light kind of stuff that just doesn’t go away and started at 46 degrees in the morning and dropped to 42 by evening.  A cold week is ahead for us.

Mike and I started the day by going to the fitness center – too wet and cold to do outside stuff this week.  Might just as well get some exercise in – preparing for all those Christmas cookies you know!  I came home before him as he does more than me – my knees & hips won’t take more than an hour.  I was ready to get some sewing going.

Three more scrappy stars finished – I couldn’t help myself and laid them all out to get a photo.  So many more needed to have this queen size – and I do want to use up a lot of the scraps so that is the aim.

I do want to finish the Williamsburg Beauty top before the end of the year and all the circles are now ready – I got the gathering strings on them yesterday now today it is to get the Mylar circles out and press and prep the sewing part will go quickly when the prep is done.    There is a tutorial on how I do my circles on the side bar if you need to know how to do circles neatly – it is of course just one of many ways quilters do circles.  Stitching these circles down will be my Slow Sunday Stitching project joining Kathy’s Quilts for that.  I am also linking to Tweety Loves Quilting , Quilting is More Fun Than Housework and Love, Laugh, Quilt:Monday Making.

The 5 baskets at the top are finished – the 3 in the front are cut out and ready to stitch for the Scrappy Baskets top.  I really don’t know why I cut these out yesterday I will not have time to work on them today if I concentrate on the circles like I plan to do – LOL – can I really concentrate on one project – I really well try as I want to get that quilt off the design wall and put in the “to be quilted box” well be nice to have the top finished this year.

Friday night I unrolled the Postage Stamp quilt when I finished the row so I could spritz out all the blue lines I had forgotten to do that and I don’t always do that but felt like it.  I let it dry over night and then rolled it back up – first border done and one row of blocks (10 x 10 rows).

And this is where I picked up last night on it.  Hanging at the end of the frame is the Big Hopscotch quilt which I intend to machine quilt and intended to be working on it by now but it hasn’t happened.  Maybe this week while it is so cold outside – I don’t know – I would like to finish it by the end of the year but if it doesn’t happen it doesn’t happen.

Don’t forget  Craftsy is having a 12 day of Christmas sales –  different specials each day – I don’t know in advance what the sales will be you have to check just like I do – there might be something you want, I’m keeping an eye on it but trying to control myself.  Go in through the link on the side bar or above in the first paragraph.  A great way to try new things out at a lower price.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

thanks Deb, this quilt isn’t as hard to hand quilt as I thought it would be, there are so many seams but it is not that hard

Today will be a. Good day to work on circles. I’m loving your scrappy stars quilt, Karen, and think that when I get back to the island in the spring, the smart thing for me to do will be to set myself up with a leader/Ender project to do the same. I have so many scraps of all sizes. I did work a little to cut some of them up, but it didn’t make a dent! Great baskets…wish I was as organized as you! XO

sometimes I do not feel very organized!

  • Gail Dec 4, 2016

You are making great progress on all your projects! It is so busy this time of the year, but we all need to make time for some stitching. It must be fun to quilt the postage stamp quilt, revisiting all those scraps!

yes every now and then I see a scrap that has special meaning – I must have had a bit left over from my grandson’s baby quilt as pieces of that keeps turning up and he is 16 now!!

  • Alida Dec 4, 2016

Wow, your postage stamp quilt is always to inspiring to see! And another scrappy great scrappy project with the stars, you are really calling for the scrappy girl inside me to come out and start attacking my stash!! Thanks for sharing!!

    • Karen Dec 4, 2016

thanks Alida – I have been determined in recent years to use up my scraps even though I do love new fabric the old must be used too – I have said I could probably make 20 queen size quilts from scraps if I add new backing fabric in the mix and I think that number is probably higher as I still have two 1/2 boxes under the frame of scraps that haven’t been touched.

thanks Deb – I saw today’s special was a dollar shipping – I’m sure there will be more sales continuing this month! The baskets are nice and easy to applique – no small pieces!

  • Kate Dec 4, 2016

Hello again, your quilts are looking lovely, the little baskets are very nice. I really like the picture/portrait of the lady in black and white above your frame, is she a family member?

    • Karen Dec 4, 2016

The lady in the picture frame is my mom! she died 2 years ago just short of 90 years old. My daughter Melanie took that photo of her one day when she didn’t realize she was getting her picture taken – the best way to do it with her. I like to have her picture right there at the quilting frame as even though it might sound odd I can discuss things with her (in my mind) just as I did with our frequent phone calls some times I would put her on speaker phone and I would sit at the quilting frame talking to her.

I think I’ve said this before but, the stars are drawing me in!!! There’s something about those centers with the varying shades of that color behind…..appears to be floating!!!! You do keep pushing forward…….
The weather has finally turned toward November….er…..December! Gone are those radically above normal temps!!!!! TX is beckoning……not many weeks and then……..

    • Karen Dec 4, 2016

I thought you might be off to Texas already – must be waiting until after Christmas! I bet it is getting cold there, chilly here and dropping to the teens for a night or two later this week, kind of early for that for us

  • Sarah Dec 4, 2016

So many wonderful projects going on but I especially like your postage stamp quilt. I’ve been having a go at my first hand quilting project, it’s quite tricky getting those stitches even so I’m in awe of your stitching!

thanks Sarah – they might look even but they don’t up close! I’ve giving up trying to have them all the same size – they never are exact

  • Sandra B Dec 4, 2016

Love following along on all your projects, Karen!
Your scrappy stars are looking great! Your quilting on the Postage Stamp quilt is coming along at a pretty good clip… And progress is being made on those little baskets…and, I am looking forward to seeing those little circles being added to Williamsburg Beauty….
I always have a lot of projects going at once, as well, but I am mostly a hand piecer and hand quilter, so my progress is much slower….I may have to think about using the machine so I can get more done!

    • Karen Dec 4, 2016

I used to only do by hand – all of the process except the binding – it made life simpler LOL – now too many things – I think I will need to do a lot of tv watching this winter to get all the hand projects done and back to work on the hexies as well.

  • Dottie bishaw Dec 4, 2016

  • Karen Dec 5, 2016

I think I want to start a star postage stamp next year. What size are the squares in the middle of the star? Thanks for the inspiration. How’s your table working for you? Are you getting used to it sticking out?

    • Karen Dec 6, 2016

the scrappy squares for the Stars are 2 inches in size, 1.5finished. yes the table is working out, I don’t know if I will always leave it out but for now while I am busy it is.

  • Kate Dec 6, 2016
