Hexies and Stars

Handful of Scraps, scrap quilts

Finished my stars yesterday!  Now on to the scrappy sashing – as soon as I get some of the sashing ready I will start putting rows together and do another layout on the floor.  Stars from the last two days – 9 of them now need to be squared up – they have been turning out pretty well and only need a little trim here and there.

Almost finished with the row around for the Handful of Scraps.  When I get done adding the last two flowers to this area on the left I will begin to add the neutrals around the outside edges getting it ready for the final 8 flowers.  I think I have decided how I will finish this quilt off but I need to purchase a piece of yardage to applique this big center down to first.  Think I found the place – they have some of the back ground pieces I have used and I want to find out if they have enough for me to order to finish it off.  I will be linking to Kathy’s Slow Sunday Stitching as soon as the link is up and spend sometime today finishing up this section.  I am also linking to Quilting if More Fun than Housework.

This much left to do for this section.

I was asked about the flooring polish that I got – this is it.

I must remove a window screen if I am going to get decent photos of the birds – purple finches here.  Just not a clear photo with the screen in the way.

The Daily Buzz at Craftsy has Boundless Solids on sale- these are very much like Bella Solids to me.  I do believe the Daily Buzz sales are like the daily deals on other on line stores – the sale price is for one item.  If you order a 1 yard cut – that one piece is the 50% off item.  If you order a 4 yard cut it is 50% off but if you order two of those cuts one 4 yard cut would be 50% off and the second one would be the regular price – just so you won’t be confused, though I would explain it.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

It seems like the star project went so quickly! Looks like the birds are having quite the feast.

I am in total LUV with those stars!!! I think it is the color/shades that were chosen for the star points…….gorgeous!!!!! The pattern choices you make are always executed so perfectly and your hand quilting is the absolutely perfect finish!!!!! You are an inspiration for me!!!!! (no kidding!!!!)

thanks Doreen -this star quilt will be machine quilted though with straight lines. I need to be even more picky then I had been about what gets hand quilted now, my thumbs and right hand have gotten arthritis worse in them this past six months then they had been. I think soon it will be down to 2 hand quilted quilts a year instead of 3 or 4

The stars are my favorite. The only scraps I have are in 2.5 squares. Maybe in my future.

I cut my scraps into all sizes and have boxes set aside with 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 4, and 5 inch squares I do believe –

Nice scrappy stars! I will be watching to see how you do your sashing and the next part of your hexie project. The snow is falling outside our window today.

no snow here and will be in low 60’s other than a few cold spells we have not had much winter – we need rain or snow getting very dry here. I will work more on the stars sashing today and the hexies

Those stars are so pretty. I love the bluish fabrics. I have used that floor polish and it is great. Enjoy your stitching today!

lucky you – I was pooped when I got done and I don’t have that large of an area to do – when the sewing room gets done I will use it in there also

What a lovely hexagon quilt. And I like your scrappy stars as well.

    • Karen Feb 5, 2017

thanks! I will be glad when the hexies are done – doing two hexie quilts one right after another was too many!!

  • Joyce Mullis Feb 5, 2017

Your hexies are amazing. Looking forward to the finished quilt.

Boy, you’ve been a busy girl since I’ve been away. Virginia and back and everything in between LOL. I LOVE the scrappy stars — such a fun pattern. And thanks for the bundt cake recipe — it looks wonderful!

  • Dottie bishaw Feb 5, 2017

Boy, you really got a lot done on the scrappy stars. The hexie quilt is going to be so lovely. It’s in the high 70’s here today, so nice.

    • Karen Feb 5, 2017

yes I have moved it along a bit – starting to make sashing and get rows put together.

  • Robin Feb 5, 2017

I’ve got a hexie project going and I admire you for sticking with it. Once the hexies start growing like your piece, it can be rather awkward and cumbersome stitching it together. My hands often get sore. Your hexie piece is lovely BTW.

    • Karen Feb 5, 2017

my hands get sore too – especially the thumbs with the arthritis. I will be glad when it is done!

    • Karen Feb 5, 2017

thanks – I work fast sometimes and other times it is very slow and long before I get back to a project

  • Nancy B. Feb 12, 2017

    • Karen Feb 12, 2017
