Scrappy Stars

Handful of Scraps, scrap quilts

Work was started on making sashing and putting rows together for the Scrappy Stars.  I think it will turn out nicely.  I thought I had all the rows in but I see I missed some!

Two rows put together with patchwork sashing – more to make!

A close up — I am linking up my stars to Em’s Scrapbag: Moving it Forward this morning and Cooking Up Quilts,MCM#59 and Love, Laugh, Quilt: Monday Making.

And progress made on Handful of Scraps!!  so glad to get it to this point – at times it seemed like it was taking forever.  Now to get 8 more flowers made and add the finish touches before I applique it to a background.  I think I know how I will be finishing this quilt but not positive – applique to a back for a wide border and a row of hexies in some style all around also appliqued in place – thinking on that part still.

Our weekend was mainly spent in the house being lazy (other than quilting I mean) sitting around watching tv – Mike did a little work in the sewing room but can’t say much progress was made there – maybe next days off?

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

thanks Elzaan – the quilt is going together quickly – chain piecing goes together easily and it has been using up a lot of scraps

Scrappy sashing is lovely… seems like scrappy always works… like nature… bits and pieces… tying it all together.

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

yes and it helps to clear up more of the bits of scraps in this 2 inch box – I have it still about half full

  • Beth Feb 6, 2017

That scrappy sashing looks fantastic with those stars! That’s an idea I’m going to have to use some time. 🙂 thanks for sharing your progress on MCM Karen!

thanks Beth – I have so many scraps that need to be used – I share Bonnie Hunter’s mantra – if it is ugly fabric cut it small enough and you don’t notice it LOL

The patchwork sashing really makes the stars POP! Very nice.

Love all those aqua stars! I love the idea of using even more scraps with that great sashing!

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

yes I keep trying to use up scraps but of course it is a never ending battle

  • Warm Quilts Feb 6, 2017

The patchwork sashing really pulls it all together – the quilt is stunning!

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

thanks – I keep trying to use up my scraps and this seemed a good way to use more of them

  • I really like the unifying effect of the aqua star points, then the sashing to repeat the centers. Not to mention using up scraps. Filing that idea away for the future.

Love the scrappy sashing, Karen! You always think of the greatest ways to add interest to your quilts….and even though these are just simple squares, they add quite an impact!
Handful of Scraps is looking great…looking forward to seeing what you decide for the appliqué background….

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

thanks Sandra – I have a box half full of 2 inch squares that need to be used up

Those scrappy stars are just so beautiful with that snashing. Love it and waiting to see how you are going to do the hexies. It sure will be interesting knowing how you make your quilts so interesting with your special touches.

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

thanks Dottie – I’m pretty sure I know what I will do with the hexagon quilt – I have ordered some yardage for the background before they ran out – it matches one of the neutrals in the hexies and is the same color as a lot of them – the creamy white with light blue

  • LisaS Feb 6, 2017

I love the sashing you chose for Scrappy Stars!

    • Karen Feb 6, 2017

thanks – everyone is saying they like it so I guess I chose right!

I have a small hexagon top made, and got stuck on what to do next. I think I need to applique it to a backing, so I will be watching closely to see how you do it! So glad that you take the time to share your projects!
