Scrappy Stars

Midnight Garden, Postage Stamp Quilt, scrap quilts

Progress was made – another row added to the Scrappy Stars Saturday morning before the day warmed up to close to 80!! and I had other things to do then.  I still have plenty of scraps in my 2 inch box so I hope I will have enough variety to use for the sashing that needs to be done still – but no worry if I need more I have plenty of 4 inch squares that I can cut to size and add to the variety.  Three more rows to attach so it is moving along pretty well.  Linking to Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.

Just a tad more on the Postage Stamp quilt was done on Friday night – I see my flash didn’t go off for this photo – but I think you can all see that I need to work on the border then I will lay it out on the floor and see what is next – I do believe I have a block or two on the opposite side in the same row that needs to be done before I start on the next row.  I will link up to  Kathy’s Quilts: Slow Sunday Stitching as soon as she posts and  I will probably be working on this quilt and see if I can advance it a little bit – it will not be near as warm today as it was yesterday – that was odd to be so warm and I heard that someplace in southwest Oklahoma it hit 96 degrees and in two days time they are supposed to drop down cold enough to possibly have snow – weird winter/spring we are having!

A little more work on stems and then finish the leafs on this block for Midnight Garden.

I looked through The sale at Craftsy on classes that is going on right now and I found a class for the Food Processor – seeing as I am a dummy when it comes to this new machine I though I would take the class – it is $19.99 right now for the sale that ends tonight.  I normally only look at the quilting classes and sometimes the knitting/crochet but I have never looked at the cooking classes – guess I need to check them out and see what is there.  I have watched the first 15 minutes or so and it looks like it will help me even though he is using a different model of Cuisinart it is helpful and there are recipes!

Lots of progress on everything here / love that wool applique project. Same strange weather here. Up and down, up and down.

strange for sure – it is 62 right now early this morning and most likely dropping today.

thanks Gail – if you cut scraps up small enough even the ugly ones are pretty

Yesterdays temps set records all over mid-America…. here in Wichita Ks it was about 40 degrees higher than normal.. yet Trump’s EPA nominee does not believe in global warming. The scrappy stars quilt is so happy looking… scraps cant get too little (almost)… Sarah Fielke and others are even ‘making’ scrappy fabric then cutting it into blocks or stems or flowers. Is this quilt to be a wall hanging or a lap quilt?

I haven’t figured it out since I decided on the sashing but I think it will be around 70 x 80 after washed and dried it will be a nice couch size.

I didn’t see that pieced sashing coming!! It totally works, but also TOTALLY changed the look of the quilt.

it sure has changed the look of the quilt and has made my 2 inch scrap box look like there is a big dent in it now! The quilt kind of reminds me of Bonnie Hunter’s quilts now 🙂

Lovin’ your scrappy star postage stamp. How about putting a row of stamps on the sides too to give it a finished framed look? Your clock must have more hours in it than mine as you seem to get so much accomplished each day!

    • Karen Feb 12, 2017

I’m adding the side sashing at the end and yes it will be same – it is how I am doing the long strips – I sew 53 pieces together and then put them on in one long row

      • Karen Feb 12, 2017

for the sides it will be more than 53 I believe but I will figure out how many when I get to that step

  • Sarah Feb 12, 2017

You always seem to accomplish so much every week! Your quilts are looking so good and I’m loving the appliqué!

thanks! I guess it is just that I do a little bit almost every day and try to rotate projects out so they all get worked on – but I have mainly just been concentrating on the star quilt right now to get it done.

You are making great progress on the postage stamp quilt!
It’s a little too warm there for working on big quilts 🙂

it is too warm to work with a hoop – I don’t know how so many do – I guess that is why sometimes quilters say it takes them so long to finish a quilt – when it is on my 3 roller it is not covering me up and I can sit for several hours working – at this rate when I have the sewing room remodeled the quilt well be ready to go back on the frame to get it finished and here I thought I would finish it in the hoop – not so sure now

I love the aqua stars with the 16 patch centers. It is such a good use of scraps and so peaceful to look at. Nice job!

    • Karen Feb 12, 2017

thanks Robin – this quilt sure has used up scraps and for a change I can actually see a dent – most of my scrap bits of aqua are gone and my 2 inch box that I have been using is at least half empty if not more and it was just about full when I started.

  • Vicki W Feb 12, 2017

    The stars are looking good!

    • Karen Feb 12, 2017

thanks Vicki – I like the way they look

  • Diann Bottrell Feb 12, 2017

I love your scrappy stars a little more every time I see it! The sashing and borders you’re adding are so much fun! Hope you enjoyed some slow stitching today!

thanks Diann, I try to work on it almost every day – I did get in some slow stitching though too with the hand quilting and some more applique too with the wool applique – that block is almost done – 8 more to go!

  • Dottie bishaw Feb 12, 2017

All three of your projects are really coming along, and all are so beautiful. Love, love those Scrappy Stars!

    • Karen Feb 12, 2017

thanks Dottie – I made some more progress today!

  • Nanette Feb 13, 2017

Boy those star points are right on and the pieced sashing really makes this quilt.
