Hexies & Propellers

Handful of Scraps, Retro Air Ship Propeller’s

More of the same old, same old!  In between more yard work I got a little sewing done.  First I was out off and on all afternoon it was sunny and up to 60 degrees – not bad considering we are in a downward spiral in temperatures for the next 4 days or so.  I got more of the front yard raked up.  A wheelbarrow full of pine needles dumped over the short little Rose of Sharon to protect it from the cold temperatures and more trips down to the garden with the rest of the pine needles and leafs of various kinds to make mulch in the upcoming months for the garden.  Weeding was done because of the warm winter that we had my garden was actually full of them.  I know a lot of you are getting snow and already have plants budding out like I do and I hope you do not loose any of your plants.  We might get a trace of snow tonight – hope not but snow the plants can deal with if the temperatures are above freezing but we are to have down to mid 20’s tonight and then 3 or 4 nights around freezing.  I hope the hydrangea can handle it but I’m going to drape a blanket over it to try to help it along.

Handful of Scraps – first corner of work started – I put these two hexies in place with the corner now intact above the blue hexie and took numerous photos with the Ipad which I can keep close by the work area so I do not duplicate the neutral hexies – I would rather not have two hexies of the same color right on top of each other if it is easy not to.

In the afternoon in between the yard work I was at the sewing machine and got 3 more of the Retro Air Ship Propeller blocks made.  I have 11 more cut out and ready to work on and when I get done with those I will lay them all out on the design floor to see what it looks like and try to get an estimate of how many more are needed to finish.

Oh, I love Rose of Sharon! They are so pretty when blooming. Not sure if they grow as far north as we are – will have to look into it as I have a spot that would be nice for one. We are enjoying all the different colors of azalea here in Alabama right now. We won’t be seeing ours until late May.

Your quilts are coming along nicely. While on vacation, I’ve been handquilting a wallhanging I started quilting last year. Probably won’t finish until we get home, but I’m glad to be making progress after so long a time. I have been distracted by applique!
