Propellers and Tulips

gardening, Retro Air Ship Propeller’s

Two borders have been added to the Propellers – what I thought was going to be a cloudy plain day turned into a sunshine filled 78 degree day – I was cutting grass and mulching the last of the fall leaves that I dragged out of a flower bed.  Watered the lettuce and dumped a bunch of used coffee grounds in what will be the tomato bed.  It was a pretty day!  Plenty more tulips to show today as well.  First the Propellers border.  I didn’t feel like dragging the coffee table out of the way and laying this nice and neat on the living room floor instead I moved the ironing board out of the way and laid it on the kitchen floor that leads to the dining room – tight fit I thought I would be able to lay it flat – didn’t happen!    Going across it is now 95 inches wide – the top and bottom border or sides which ever way you want to call it will have the propeller corner stones added and possibly will work on it today? Not sure – after that I will measure the red fabric and see what I have left and decide if it will be enough for another border and binding or just a border – If it is just enough for one more border so be it and I will use neutrals for a binding.  Or maybe the last border should be little squares of various colors used from the quilt – or alternate red and neutral squares and then a final red binding – I will think about it when I get this border finished.  Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today.

The tulips – at first I didn’t think most of the tulips were coming up then as they have been opening I remembered that I had planted them in about 5 clumps of about 8-10  bulbs in each area – and they are all different kinds and colors.

I thought I had a better photo of this little white with the pink tints on the edges but it is a little blurry

And this white tulip looks like a peony to me – are there “peony tulips”?

A view from above – looks a little sparse but I replanted this bed last year so it will take a little bit to see what pops up, I have forgotten what is in here .  It had been overrun with a ground cover and so I pulled most of that out and put in a different part of the yard.  I will not be surprised if some of it comes back in.  I have a circle of Crinum Lilies on the outer edges – they get really big and full in the early part of summer.

That Boundless Dutch Garden FQ set is soooo tempting! It will haunt me for the rest of the day. But I can’t… I have too many UFOs already… etc. etc. 🙂

Oh my, the Propeller quilt is really big! I love bed size quilts. It’s going to be so pretty on your bed. Your tulips are just gorgeous, love them. I used to have beautiful tulips when we lived in Colorado Springs, but here in Texas the winters aren’t cold enough to grow them. Do you have a lot of grass to cut?

You know I love your propeller quilt! And your tulips are just beautiful, Karen — you are wise to get pictures of them while you can. Spring flowers are so fleeting!

I was noticing how great your quilt looked next to the flower picture. You should try to get an outside picture of your quilt with the flowers!

Yes they are called peony tulips or double flowered. I have a few in my garden too. But they are not flowering yet. I am wondering if they are coming up as I am in AZ for the winter (our first–and I have been homesick). We will be home in a week and I will visit the garden before I go in the house.
