Handful of Scraps, Postage Stamp Quilt

In order to do the border how I want to do I had to make one more propeller block.  This was not hard to do as I had it so down pat that I got one done in no time at all.  When I got done with the propeller block I cut the rest of the pieces that I need for the “piano key” borders – I hope I cut enough.  The stack of fabric on the corner of the table were neutrals that I thought I might need but didn’t – back on the shelf they went.  I did use up quite a few pieces of fat quarters in this quilt and my neutrals are low – I will have to restock them over the next couple months I think.  I use them so much in this scrappy fashion – I have no light gray prints or almost solid pieces left of that color group.  I do still have a lot of cream/white prints that are in the project box for the scrappy baskets though.  When I get this project done I will probably get the baskets back out to work on.  Besides the Scrappy Basket quilt I think the only other one now in progress is Handful of Scraps – no I take that back I started the wool applique Midnight Garden – I have only made one of those blocks – that and the baskets will be good for working on at the porch this summer – pinned or glue basted in place and they will not fly away in the breeze.  Small they will not be draped all over me either.  I do have one quilt top waiting in line for hand quilting and the Propellers will be hand quilted as well.

The lower left corner is now stitched in place and ready to work on the next corner – I have to check and see if I have enough neutrals basted now or if I must do that first – I think I cut out way too many neutrals the last time I cut.  If I have a lot left over I might put one more row all the way around the outside edges – it won’t disrupt any pattern as I wasn’t following the applique in the pattern.  It has taken a long time to get this hexie quilt to this point!!  It will be a year in May that the first hexie was thread basted.

Nothing else for today – I didn’t sleep well Tuesday night and wasn’t very energetic yesterday and it was early to bed for me last night – I sure hope I slept better!! (I write my post the evening before they are posted scheduling for early morning so I don’t know if I slept well lol)

Your hexie quilt is coming along nicely! Great propellers, too. One of my goals for this year is to work with curves… something I have never done.

What a great work area.. light from two windows… lots of table space for cutting and stacking…maybe room to prop the elbows and look around outside.. the quilt in the background.. rose /beige colored.. is always nice to see in your pics. The colors are soft and friendly. How was the bread?

    Are your propellers hand pieced?

I’m glad that you are going to bring out your little baskets. I’ve been working on mine at night after working in the yard during the day. I only have about 20 done so far, but I have cut out about 150, so have a hand project for the summer too. They are very addictive, aren’t they? I get your posts at four o’clock, not in the morning. I wonder why if you schedule them to be posted in morning? Good work on both quilts.
