Flannel & Quilting

Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Postage Stamp Quilt

I had intended to start making the quilt blocks yesterday for the flannel quilt – Murrieta Stars but there was actually a bit more cutting to do.  There were a lot of squares that had to be cut in half diagonally and the set of 30 or so large blocks had to be cut into 4ths diagonally.  By time I got done with all the cutting and putting away all the left over scraps it was time to get supper made and I didn’t do any sewing.  After looking all the pieces over I have discovered that it is just the border and the setting triangles that will be the mustard yellow with a chain of 2.5 inch squares all around dividing it from the stars.  For some reason I thought more of it was – most likely because the photo of the pattern shows it that way!

This block is just laid out to get a feel for the pieces.  I think I will lay out all 30 blocks and stack them up so I will have color divided up well.  The beige color goes in all of them, and you have two of the colors for the rest of the block.

This is the close up of the border/setting triangle fabric – there are three shades similar to this of 2.5 inch blocks – I think 24 pieces that will be scattered through a border so it is not the only place this color is.

The Postage Stamp quilting has progressed and the hoop is moved and I’m now working out this direction on the quilt.  Yes is back to moving along at a rapid pace now that I have finally gotten my quilting mojo back – soon it will be time to mark the lines for the final border and get it done – Maybe by Monday?  Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Crazy Mom Quilts.

It was chilly outside – so breezy I didn’t get any work done.  Cold last night and now finally back to a warm up although tonight is still supposed to be chilly.  I think the weather will improve greatly this weekend and I can get back to work outside getting things done than need to be done. The iris’s are budding and will be open shortly in some parts of the yard and other parts I have seen no sign of bud’s.  No work on the hexies- taking a break!

The Spring SALE has sprung at Craftsy! All of  top classes will be under $20 this weekend. Skip the spring cleaning. Enjoy some spring crafting – starting today and ends Sunday at midnight!

Doesn’t look like your flannel it too linty when cutting.. that is NICE! I like your block layout … these will be fun to put together I think… and to figure them all out so they are just ready for you to sit and sew on will be nice too! Glad you are making progress on your hand quilting too but isn’t this weather like a roller coaster… beautiful and can’t get enough of the gorgeousness 1 day and cold or thunderstorming the next! I am waiting on batting for my recently finished flimsy and starting a new project… hopefully will blog it all for Sunday 🙂 Kathi

Wow, you are moving right along on your hand quilting! It’s going to be such a beautiful special quilt with all that hand quilting. Quilts that are hand quilted are always so special. That yellow flannel is such a pretty color and I like that block. You did such a lot of work cutting out all those blocks! Beautiful weekend coming up here, and hope yours is too. Putting mulch on all the flower beds, so a lot of work to do.
