Yesterday I was not home much so not a lot got done. I did get some hexies thread basted – these were hexies that were already cut and left over from the center of Handful of Scraps. I laid it out on the floor and played with hexies to see about the design that will go in the borders.
Right now I only laid out one way and it is just a few colors and it looks very bright as I mainly had reds and blues – there will be colors from all the left over fabrics so keep in mind this is just a start. This would be laid out in a rectangular shape around the middle of the quilt – none of these are sewn together just laying there. (I am not firm in this design right now and I will try a few layouts before I decide for sure as I get more hexies basted and more colors to mix in) Another idea could be in more of a zigzag pattern all the way around the quilt. I do not want to mix in many of the neutrals and I want to keep them off of the edge and just in the center so they would not blend into the background. I got nothing more done with the quilt. Mike left yesterday morning before I could ask him to pull the table out – the table is very heavy and I can not pull it out to it’s full length without help – it really needs two people to do it – I had him do it last night so I could work on the next border – the opposite end today. I hate leaving the table out the full length all the time even though since I am working in the dining room I have to have it extending a lot of times. It just takes up so much room. The dining room is small and with the table out the full length you have little space to move around in especially with the cutting table in the corner right now. If there was no other furniture in the room it would be ok. linking to Gone Stitching and Esther’s Quilt Blog.
These are the yellows for the next cutting part that I need to do on Murrieta Stars. I have not used flannel before and was asked about shrinkage. When I ordered the kit I got the backing that is the same kind of flannel as the top so it should all shrink the same. I plan to wash in cold water, dry on low for about 30 minutes and then lay it out to finish drying. Hopefully there will not be too much shrinkage. I didn’t get any cutting done yesterday.
Quilting is being done almost every evening on the Postage Stamp and I did move the hoop and start a new section.
