Murrieta Stars and Tulips

gardening, Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Postage Stamp Quilt

Yes the tulips are still blooming – It sees like they have been around for a month!  I am surprised that they are still blooming and still getting new blooms while some of the older ones have fallen apart – nice to have ordered a mixed box of 50 bulbs – it has been such a variety of color and style.  I am not sure what all will be growing in this bed when the tulips finish.  If you have been following along you know I dug this bed up last fall, took a lot of things out divided bulbs and moved a bunch of bulbs to other parts of the yard – it was over run with ground cover, most of it is out although I have seen a little bit come back which is ok.  I have some big Crinum Lilies that will grow in here they are white and pink.  I have rarely ever seen them for sale and the other day when we were in Conway at Home Depot I saw some at $6 a bulb!  I have seen that a few day lilies are still in here but I might have to fill in with some annuals until I can see what has grown and what has not.

It was a very windy day but the morning wasn’t bad.  I had run in town to pick up a few groceries and things at Wal-Mart – much earlier than I normally get about! for some reason I was at the store at 9:30 AM when normally I am finally getting dressed and ready for the day – yes I am lazy in the morning – somehow all that computer time in the morning takes up a bit of time – I have a cup of tea and toast first thing while going through email and blogs and then I have my first cup of coffee for the day and I’m still on the computer!! I need to cut back on computer time!!  Anyhow I got back home from the store before 10:30 had the second cup of coffee and a short while later lunch then I was finally ready to get outside and start on yard work.  Emptied 5 bags of soil and added leaf mulch to a flower bed.  Then I moved way over in the yard to an area a distance from the house with the lawn mower and wagon and started to rake up piles of pine needles and more leaves to make more chopped up mulch to put next to the garden so it well be ready when I need it.  The wind was really picking up and I got tired of being blown around and also my back needed a break by then.  In the house I went and out came the Murrieta Stars.

One row of six done.

A couple close ups

A little squaring up will be needed and I will do that before I start to sew them together.  I have more corners to clip before I sew more.

Melanie is coming over for brunch today  – she has been so busy with her new job schedule that she hasn’t been over for supper for a couple weeks – I wanted to try out a new bread recipe that I found on pinterest – it has cinnamon chips in it.  I thought it would be good for French Toast, so I made it last night  (it was raising as I wrote this post) – well blog tomorrow with the recipe and photos if it turned out LOL – if not we had pancakes and sausage instead of French Toast and Sausage.

For Slow Sunday Stitching I will be working on the Postage Stamp quilt – I forgot to take a photo of it but I still have one square left to quilt before going on to the border – here is the photo from the other day and it is still basically the same but over a block.  Linking also to Quilting is More Fun than Housework and Tweety Loves Quilting.

Last day of the spring sale at Craftsy! All of the top classes will be under $20 this weekend. Skip the spring cleaning. Enjoy some spring crafting sale ends tonight at midnight!

You are making excellent progress on you hand quilting. Those borders are lovely…a perfect quilt to be working on in the Spring. Your tulips are beautiful. My daffodils are going to be blooming this week. The tulips will not be blooming for a while yet.

Your tulips are beauties! You got a real workout with the soil and mulch work you did. I wish had some pine needle mulch, I’m still working on about 25 bags of mulch. The wind has been really blowing the last 2 days, some rain is supposed to come tomorrow morning. Your stars are perfect and I love those colors. I wonder how you are going to do the borders? Enjoy slow stitching Sunday.

Love the colors in your postage stamp quilt. And, again, the border is dazzling. You are getting a lot done in your yard. I love the mixture of tulips.

Your flowers are so pretty. I really like tulips, but have had limited luck with growing them. I do better with daffodils. Mine have just started to bloom. It has been quite chilly here. Your blocks are very pretty.

I agree – computer time really makes the day disappear! Love your tulips and I’ll bet you find you have lots of bloom in there after the dividing. Pretty blocks and love your hand quilting quilt. I just moved my room around so my frame is in a better spot… now to go get some stitches in.

Very pretty tulips! I am a very lazy gardener and mostly rely on perennials. Now that the severe drought has been called, perhaps I can spare some more water for annuals! Nice postage stamp quilt, looks big!
