Progress on Piecing

Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Postage Stamp Quilt

Yesterday was a very wet day – we had just slightly over one inch of rain on Friday, although it did rain again during the night it didn’t do much more but the rain brought in a cold front and it didn’t get above 55 degrees and very cloudy for Saturday.  I didn’t bother with any outside work and gave it the day to dry out – I hope the sun comes out today so I can do a little outside.

But because of the weather I stayed in all day and almost got the quilt top squares put together for Murrieta Stars – one more row to piece – one of the longest in the middle – then put the two big diagonal pieces together  and on to the borders.  I have the row that you do not see stacked up in order and ready to piece today and then I will sew it altogether.  This main part of the quilt is close to 75 inch square as that is what the design wall is – the border will add more and I really need to measure the backing flannel that I have before I do the borders as I might want to make it slightly bigger then the pattern so it fits the bed better.  I had so many of the scrappy colors left over that I could do one more border if I want to I bet – but well the backing be enough – well be measuring and see.

Today I will try to finish the quilting on The Postage Stamp quilt – that will be my Slow Sunday Stitching time with Kathy.  As you can see I am just about done!  this area of the hoop is it with just a couple lines that wouldn’t fit in the hoop area and I will finish that part up without the hoop.  I have of course been thinking of binding while I finish up this quilting and trying to decide if I will just do scrappy which really would go with the quilt or if I should do green scrappy on the clamshell areas and then white or scrappy on the rest.  not sure but will decide this week as I want to get it cut and sewed on Monday.  I am also linking to Quilting is More Fun Than Housework.  Also linking to Tweety Loves Quilting.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Oh my goodness, you have made such great progress on your Murietta Stars. And now you are at the end of the quilting row. Your fingers must be so experienced at it. Do you use any thimbles or thimble pads?

Wow, great progress on both quilts. It’s so nice when it rains and we can stay inside quilting, isn’t it? I did a little work outside, but the wind was cold even though it was in the low 60s. Today in the 70s, and 90 by Tuesday. Texas, lol! Have a great slow stitching day!

Oh my… that is so exciting to be so close to finishing the hand quilting on the postage stamp quilt. When I get to that point, I become totally obsessed with finishing and can’t do anything else until it’s finished!
