Quilting is Done

gardening, Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Postage Stamp Quilt

The Postage Stamp quilting is done – now on to the binding this week.  I spread the quilt out over the bed to take photos.  The quilt will be washed when I get done with the binding.  I laid the quilt out over the quilt that is currently on the bed so that couple inches of light green that you see at the bottom of the border is from the other quilt.  Large white spot at the left of the photo are from heaven knows what shouldn’t be there.

Some of the quilting on the back of the quilt.  I at times changed the direction of the zigzag lines going down the patch work just for the fun of it so yes they are not all going the same direction.  Linking to Em’s Scrapbag today and MCM #69 and Love, Laugh, Quilt and Esther’s Quilt Blog.

The patchwork – more photos in a week or so when the binding is done.

Also this weekend the main part of Murrieta Stars is complete – now on to the borders for this one – this measures around 63 x 76 right now – I think hubby likes this one he thinks it is similar to an American Western Indian Blanket .  I will continue to work on these two quilts this week and maybe they will both be done by the end of the week – Then on to other things!

We worked on the Apple Tree this weekend – took the fencing down so we could tear out small trees that were growing around the area and a lot of weeds.  The tree had grown so we needed a wider area for the branches to grow well.  Here are some of the apples that I tried to get a photo of last week.

More fence stakes put in the ground in a wider circle, a ground cloth of a weed preventer put down first then lots of mulch.

The new fencing up to protect from the deer and whatever else might like apple trees.

Both quilts are coming together speedily now. Love the patchwork with appliqued borders! Good idea to shield the apple tree from deer. They do love to eat them, although I think they behave a little like raccoons with corn – wait til the apples are ripe, then strip the tree. Our blueberries are doing well now and we are hoping not to get any frost after they bloom. I am going to keep vigilant this year, and if frost is predicted, I’ll cover the bushes. Last year, I didn’t and we had about a cup’s worth.

The two quilts are lovely… but….oh… the hand quilting . This is a quilt for Paducah… a combination of colors, a balance of shapes… and beautiful dense quilting. And an apple tree offering you its fruit ! Your hard hard work is.. bearing fruit … inside and outside. Best wishes…

Oh Karen, Postage Stamp turned out even more beautiful! I love just looking at it on top of the bed, what a awesome design and love, love the hand quilting! It certainly is a precious heirloom. The apple tree can breathe better now that the weeds and other little trees are gone, and should grow and produce for you. Congraulations on your finish on both quilts, you just inspire me!

Hi Karen so great to see you have not let your eyes stop you from still pumping out your beautiful quilting it is so dense and the back is just as beautiful to the eye as the front. Your postage stamp quilt is BEAUTIFUL how lovely it looks on your bed. I agree with your hubby about the star quilt it has those lovely taupe tones Ive seen in the Indian woven blankets. So very warm and beautiful. Funny to think you have to fence off for deer, my DS not far from here has a deer that has become very tame and visits them often and plays up and down the fence line with their dog who is about 1/2 its size, they but heads through the fence and it is so funny to see them playing. Cheers Glenda
