A Bit of Clean Up

Fall Harvest (scrappy baskets), Midnight Garden

The cutting table was to the point of getting out of control – I couldn’t use it to cut even the tiniest bit of fabric  – no room to work.

A project box had to come out of the closet for the wool applique project – heaven knows when I will get back to work on it – soon I hope.

For now it is stacked on the corner table out of the way.

All the little bits that were unearthed under things got cut up into the little bitty scraps and put in the boxes of the appropriate sizes.  There was much which surprised me.  I have a box of 2.5 inch squares that is just about full – might be time to start a nine patch soon – I saw a quilt top pattern recently that had a lot of those in it that I really liked.

Now the table looks like this – I wonder how long it will last.

I never did get around to working more on the flannel quilt – I need to piece a bit of the yellow to have enough to do another border when that is done and all sewed in place I will see what is left over and cut binding from all the colors left over.  One more basket got appliqued on Thursday night and work was started on another Friday night.  Better than nothing right!  Linking to Tweety Loves Quilting today.

A 9 patch in your future? Using a different layout? That will be interesting to watch,, especially when using 2 1/2″ pieces. I am doing trial blocks of Shoo Fly and Churn Dash..maybe Ohio Star…none alike and hoping they will work into a wall hanging. I am collecting pics on my iPhone of these blocks that I see on Pinterest or blogs… and I am surprised how often I make mistakes in assembling the 9 little pieces. Humbling.

A good tidyup always feels good, but I can never keep my areas tidy for long either. Good on you with trimming the scraps – you’ve cut out a 9-patch quilt without even realising!

Karen, I think it is impossible to keep a cutting table organized….at least that is the case with me! Isn’t it great to cut all those scraps up as we clean up? Sort of give us a head start on another project with only a little bit of time and effort spent.
Love that little basket that has a bit of red in the neutral background. Love to see little bits of color like that among the neutrals…gives them more interest…. I did not comment yesterday, but I love those reds and blues that you pulled out to use for the little baskets…

I need to clean up my cutting area also. It seems everything lands there at one point or another. I can get a lot more accomplished when it’s all neat and tidy.

Seeing your little basket blocks makes me want to get mine back out and work on them.

I am in the same situation: my space is too messy for me to work and I will spend few hours sorting different chaotic piles, who knows what I will find there 🙂 Thanks for sharing your progress: one block is great progress to me!!
