Baskets and Family

Fall Harvest (scrappy baskets), family, Midnight Garden

I got a little of the wool pieces cut and some baskets for the scrappy basket quilt, but other than that it was just one of those days – same old stuff other than a concert in the evening.  My little brother is retiring from teaching.  He has been the band instructor for the last 21 years at the local school that my kids went to – he started there after they left.  There was a reception for him before the final concert and then the final concert of the year.  Seeing as this was a special occasion – his retirement 3 of my brothers that live in the northwest corner of the state came down to see it.

Here is a photo of me with 4 of my little brothers – yes I’m older than all of them – there were 12 of us, still 10 of us so this is just half – I have 3 sisters, two older, one younger and there are  two more brothers that couldn’t make it down also.  We got this photo of the five of us before the concert started.  Jeff the one in the tux is the retiring teacher obviously  – he is 11 and a half years younger than me – next to him is David his senior by only 2 years – me and next to me brother Larry a little younger than me and Pat younger still.  And if I didn’t dye my hair I would be whiter than all of them LOL white/gray hair seems to run in the family.

11 more baskets now cut out – here in the prepping stage – for the Scrappy Baskets that have no name at this moment – well need thought on it while working on them for the – next year or so!

The blue wool is cut out and sitting in place  for the Midnight Garden block– I still need to figure exact placement but I will do that after I get the stems in place.

More work done today perhaps!!  But I really need to clean the house first!!  Linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Sew Fresh Quilts.

What a nice group! You are lucky to have so many siblings! You and your conductor brother look so much alike. Hope he enjoys retirement as much as I do!

If you are keeping it for yourself–Karen’s Scrap Basket/s. If you are gifting use the name of the recipient. It seems you usually keep your quilts for a bit before gifting them so this might not work for you. I know another house that needs cleaning if you have the energy after you get yours done. 🙂

Oh my, how wonderful to have such a large family! There were only five in my family and eight kids in my husband’s. I lost my oldest sister to colon cancer ten years ago, so only four of us now. I’m glad you had such a nice evening, you look very lovely. The baskets are so cute, love these little blocks!

Great pic of you and your brothers. I am glad that we got to know and work with Jeff and Greta while we lived in AR.

What a great photo of you and your brothers! My dad came from a large family too and it always reminds me of him when I hear about someone else who has a large family. Knowing how amazing a quilter you are and that your brother stayed in the same job for 20 years, I would say your family is full of producers!

I love pictures of family members. Great looking bunch! I try to get a pic of myself and my 5 brothers whenever we all get together. The older we get the harder it is to get everyone together. I’m the oldest of the clan and my youngest brother is in Bentonville. Someday I’ll get back to AR. I’ve been away too long. Congrats to retiree!

Nice pic with your siblings, I see lots of resemblances. Cute baskets.

I made a basket quilt with that shape basket you are using only I did it without the hole. I don’t have the quilt and don’t remember who does. The basket blocks can be addictive.
