A Scrappy Sunday & Birds

animals, Fall Harvest (scrappy baskets), scrap quilts

Sunday was a nice day, the humidity still wasn’t bad like it will be this week.  Melanie came over for brunch and I made Oatmeal Cinnamon Walnut Waffles.  Yum they were good, glad I made a double batch, Mike goes into work late some days this week and I will make them again in a day or two.  I guess I need to get the recipe up if anyone wants it and take a photo when I make them later this week – yummy!!

First I decided seeing as these are tiny blocks and fairly easy – really!  for the Temecula Quilt Company challenge that I would make three of each one for the 12 weeks and have something big enough for a topper for the table.  I think they are kind of cute and for the inside tiny squares I raided the 1.5 inch box, I’m actually getting more in that box already after it had been emptied from the Postage Stamp quilt  and trimmed the squares down to 1.25 the whites are from my scrap box of whites of various small sizes and the outside edges come from my 5 inch charm box of scraps – I have a few fossil fern leftover blocks in there from when I did the circle quilt last year.  I thought this was a link of but it isn’t – maybe at the end of the 12 weeks we share our work? Not sure how it works!  But this we we make a miniature Jacobs Ladder.

This box is full of white fabrics – mainly white on white or beige on white/cream.  Linking up to Em’s Scrapbag today and MCM#76-Cooking Up Quilts, and Love, Laugh, Quilt.

One basket done.

This was a new to me bird in my area, I had not seen it before – at first I thought it was cardinal of course, but then saw no crest – luckily I was able to get some photos of it before Melanie came over and she is the expert and said it was a Summer Tanager – Male – I just had never seen one but they are in this area.  So glad it stuck around for a little while so I could get photos.

We also have a pair of Red Shoulder Hawks that we have seen flying around and making a heck of a lot of noise at times – but no photos right now – hope to see one sitting long enough to get a photo – they have a wing span of 35-50 inches.  This photo is from the bird site on line

Really like your little blocks and also the small baskets, good ongoing projects. Thank you for the link to The Sewing Lawyer, great fun, really enjoyed that and I’m sure my husband agrees with it all!

Gee.. those little blocks are sweet.. and with all that color and diversity they would always seem lively. The scrappier, the the better. The scarlet tanager is amazingly colored… I think we used to see them here in Kansas . We do have hawks.. and eagles.. they nest around here on the Arkansas river… and lakes and streams.. The waffles sound really, really,, yum! …. leftovers can be frozen..??

I made a double batch of dough and put it two bowls – it can keep in the fridge for a couple days or longer and I will make them fresh – I do make some up sometimes and freeze the leftover and put them in the toaster to heat up but don’t really care for waffles that way and prefer fresh

Yes, those waffles sound delish! Your little blocks are darling. I like how bright they are.

Your blocks are so cute and with the other blocks will make such a pretty table topper. You always come up with such interesting projects to make, never a dull moment, lol! You are a inspiration to us all. I love that little red bird, we have Texas cardinals and the regular cardinals and lots of hawks. Your waffles sound so yummy my mouth is watering!

well the blocks aren’t my idea but those on the blog I linked to but it is my idea to make three of each so I can make something from them big enough to see LOL

I’m so glad I spotted the bird and that it stuck around long enough for me to quickly get in the house grab the camera and go back out the door quietly so as not to startle him – he really was close to the house so I’m surprised all my movement didn’t make him fly away – he let me take photos and then flew away – how generous of him 🙂

The waffles sound delicious. I can hardly wait until you post the recipe. My son is home waiting for a job offer so I have to cook…lots. I am so glad you posted about the small quilt blocks. I want to start that too. So now I’m already 2 weeks behind. I better get on it. I like working with itty bitty pieces. My blog tag line could also be “I dabble in small pieces.”

I will post the recipe on Wednesday’s post I am making more of them for breakfast in the morning and will take a photo then too. Last weeks tiny blocks were ok and not hard to do – this weeks! wow fiddly is putting it mildly 🙂 I have one done and will make two more even if it takes me a little bit as I said I was going to do 3 of each!
