Little Hexies

Granny’s Gone Crazy

Not much in the sewing department yesterday.  Garden works instead.  I picked the peas and pulled out the plants and will not bother with them again – I had such trouble with aphids that no matter how soapy water I sprayed on them they kept coming back and all I have to show for it is about a cup of shelled peas!  I pulled the plants out and threw them far from the garden.  There were little green aphids all over the place – then I picked the green beans that were ready and will pick again in a couple days – doesn’t look like I will get much out of these either – I think next year if we are home for the summer I will go with more tomato plants instead.  I have of my sweet potatoes planted and as soon as I pull out the green bean plants I will put the rest of the sweet potatoes in there.  One day I will have to admit that I am not much of a vegetable gardener and stick with the herbs & plant flowers and tomatoes and potatoes/sweet potatoes instead – I always have luck with the potatoes!  The tomato plants even seem smaller than usual this year – too much rain perhaps.

Grass was cut, exercise done.  Spearmint cut and in the dehydrator for winters tea.  The other mints do not seem to be growing near as fast as this one has.  I sat outside for awhile in the afternoon and evening and have two little hexies to show for my time!  Maybe more in the sewing area today?  Not sure – Mike is off for five days and I don’t know how much I will be helping him with the sewing room – depends on if I am in the way or actually helping LOL.  Confessions of a Fabric Addict, Sew Fresh Quilts, Jo’s Country Junction, and My Quilt Fabrication.

Lovely little hexies! Last year our green beans didn’t do well at all. Thankfully, a dear friend ended up giving us about 4 bushels. I canned them and we still have a few jars left, enough to do us until this year’s is ready. I never have any luck with peas.
    Blessings…

we have had a lot of rain this spring that might be what is causing problems with the garden once again – I don’t know – I’m about ready to give in after three years of trying in the raised beds I thought I would have more luck.

I am glad to hear others are having crop issues! Our cherry tomatoes are going crazy! And my sweet and hot peppers are, too. Bit our tomato plants for the large tomatoes (slicing tomatoes) have lots of tomatoes but slow to turn. We have had to keep them sprayed also with “Stop Rot” to keep, the bottom of the tomatoes from turning dark before getting ripe. But no bugs and for once the birds haven’t messed with them- and we have had way too much rain which I think is the culprit here, too!

I had some trouble with my tomatoes like that last year and the plants were tall and spindly – this year some of the plants are short and look ok and others are beginning to be tall and thin not full in the least. I really think it might be time to quit veggies and try flowers 🙂

    Hi Karen,
Outside work is meant to be enjoyed, too. Sewing/quilting will wait – for rainy days I’m sure will be in the near future. You are two hexies closer to your goal! ~smile~

yes every little hexie counts 🙂 for the amount of veggies I get from this little garden I for sure think I need to switch to more flowers LOL

You are two hexies ahead, so keep stitching. A little every day will get it done. I’m sorry about those aphids, they always like my hibiscus plants too. I’ve seen a lot more bugs this year than before. Another beautiful sunny day today. We walked the beach this morning and I found a lot of sea shells, now to enjoy stitching my basket and relaxing. You have your hands full with Mike off for five days, I hope you have some time to enjoy your stitching too.

I think between the heavy rain we kept getting last year and the mild winter and then more rain this spring has made for more bugs. I have never seen this many aphids before. Love collecting sea shells.

Sounds like you enjoyed just sitting outside in beautiful weather – and that’s ok. Those hexies will get done eventually! Thanks for sharing on Midweek Makers
