More on Tumalo Trails

scrap quilts

Yesterday I got done with a little but I was more in a reading mood then sewing. I have been reading a series of books by Dawn Lee McKenna – these books are very easy to read and the author has a very nice style – not strictly romance more family/female cop in small town kind of setting book – the violence is not graphic, the romance is there but not in your face – the relationships are more what the book is all about in my opinion but intertwined with her job.   After I finished the series of 7 books – they are not large books– I found that she had one book a stand alone that was her first book so now I am reading that one and I find that one just as good.  I wasn’t expecting to get caught up in these books but I like her style of writing.  I found her through Amazon –I had found the first 4 books as a set at a very low price and then got the rest.

So anyhow what sewing did I did – I got 43 – 17 x 2.5 inch strips cut for the sashing in between the blocks for Tumalo Trails cut.  Scrappy Neutrals should suit this scrappy quilt pretty well I think.

My table is getting extremely overloaded with projects and as soon as I finish this top I must stop and organize once again!!

Thanks for the book recommendation. I just downloaded the first book in the series ($0.99). I’m always looking for a new series to read. Have downloaded a few items this week, so I’m all set for those days when it’s too humid to do anything of consequence.

    Love that shirting as sashing!

I hope you enjoy the book

I lucked up somewhat! While I like the method they gave for Tumalo quilt of sewing the long strips together and then cutting the 1 1/2 inch strips for the 9 patch, I have a box of bake shop 2 1/2 inch squares (480!) plus some in my scrap box already cut and ready to go so here we go with this scrappy quilt! I got to figure out now the half square size since I will be using the 2 1/2 inch instead of their sizes like you are doing. Now to pull for the half square triangles! Along with the Old Italian Blocks I am making, the whole cloth quilt on the quilting frame, two baby quilts and ascrappy “jelly roll race” quilt tops to machine quilt I would say the other quilt tops in line to do may need to wait a week…or two! Ha!

I find sewing squares together easy and I don’t have the long strips Bonnie has so this way worked easy for me too – I had those packages of 2.5 inch squares at one time to and got them for a year – I turned them all into circles for one I made about 4 or more years ago

I really like the new neutrals you have, very sweet. I haven’t read any book by the author you talk about but what you said reminded me of the book series by Jan Karon. I really enjoyed them.

I read some by Jan Karon but I couldn’t get into them as much as this author

A book recommendation gets my attention.. checking library.. we have a great system. … so I seldom buy books. The sashing is lovely… these neutrals are good to just look at…

I have found that a lot of books I find on Amazon are not available at my library – but my library is quite small

Wow you are progressing right along. I have been thinking about borders for mine. Black and white fabrics come to mind. Your are looking fabulous.

thanks Liz – I am still thinking of doing the piano key border or something like that on mine. I will decide that when I get all the blocks sewed together with the sashing.

I think I have some of those same neutrals, lol! They look great with your squares, Karen. You’re just like me, once I start reading I can’t stop until I’m done! Did you get any more rain? We got another half a inch, which is really helpful to keep the water bill down.

I think we ended up getting over 5 inches of rain in the past 7 days – I have one area that is puddled up but I’m sure it will soak in – the rest of the yard is just fine and my feet aren’t sinking in. We do not normally have wet July’s – I cut the grass again last night – once a week for now – sometimes by the middle of July I no longer have to cut weekly and go to twice a month as it is dry and sometimes once a month through fall by now. I think I got burned out on Netflix and back to reading for awhile!
