Off For a Tune Up

Round We Go

Thank you everyone for your kind words yesterday – I has been an amazing feeling to know I won a sewing machine.  So glad many of you had good things to say about Babylock.  Yes the Juki is going in for the tune up today  – I keep it clean inside and out so they really won’t have much to do with it there I even take the bottom off of the sewing machine and clean out from way under the bobbin.  I sure hope it can be fixed today so I won’t have to go back next week to pick it up.  I know I will be able to find places to spend time today – shopping for this and that and if I really tire of it I will find a bookstore to sit awhile!!

I did get the little sewing machine out from the closet – my back up machine – an old Janome Platinum 720 I must admit since I got the Juki about 4.5 years ago I hardly ever use this little machine – mainly because I really didn’t have room for two sewing machines – now that I won a nice machine – I will make room for the Juki and the Babylock.  I had to get the bag it was stored in to transport the Juki in the car – now the bag was extra big and too big for the Janome and yes the Juki fits in it but I can’t get the zipper closed LOL – well it will be easier to wheel it from the parking lot to the store then carry a 29 pound sewing machine right.  I have it strapped into the backseat so it will stay put.  I never got a bag for the Juki because it is too heavy to bring anywhere.   You might ask what will happen to this little 12+ year old Janome? I’m going to teach Melanie how to use it – she doesn’t really sew much as she is all about needlework/embroidery by hand – but now and then you need a sewing machine to repair this or that or to sew one of her needlework’s down to a tote bag or maybe to make Aniya something (her great niece who spends a lot of time with her).

So took the little machine out of the closet and put it out on the sewing table to see if it was working – it was – and cleaned it off and have it ready to use in case the Juki doesn’t come home with me today.  The main reason I got the Juki was because I was beginning to machine quilt a little bit and this little machine just couldn’t handle it very well – look at that little space to the right of the needle!

Here is the Juki – look at that space! and it turned out that besides doing the machine quilting pretty darn good it also handle piecing just fine.  I do wonder which machine I will use most now once I get the Babylock delivered – if I read the specs on the machine right I think it is only 3/4 of an inch less to the right of the needle then the Juki is.

What else did I do yesterday – got my hair cut, went to Wal-Mart and the post office to mail off a care package of junk food and a gift card to my grandson who is away at school – he needs to know his family isn’t forgetting him off at military school – did I tell you all he is finishing up high school at a military school – he started it last year (his junior year) as he wants the preparation before going into the military – he might be doing college still too – we hope – depends on grades.  And I finished my 5th circle star for Round We Go – my first really serious attempt at fussy cutting – not perfect but I’m satisfied with it.  These circles will all be applique to background squares.  I am linking to Sew Fresh Quilts today and Jo’s Country Junction and Susan’s Midweek Makers#91 .

round we go

Wish me luck that it just needs a little adjusting of the bobbin or something simple like that and it will come home with me.

Happiness is hearing… “It will take an hour or so.” And waiting is not tedious if there is a book store and quilt store (s..

here it is 3 PM and I got home a half an hour with the machine – and it didn’t cost all that much to fix – the shop was right across from the mall so I went in there to get my daily exercise and had almost 10,000 when I got home – of course I did find 2 other places to stop but I avoided the quilt shops – already spent too much on Paducah and the sewing room!

Hope you enjoy yourself while waiting, and have a safe trip. I like your fussy cut circle star, you did good. We’re a little cooler today, in the high 80s today and low 80s the next few days, with a return to the 90s next week.

thanks Dottie – there and back home with the machine fixed and it wasn’t quite 2:30 when I pulled in the driveway

Let’s hope it’s nothing major. And yes, that Janome is a little one – better to let the Juki do the heavy lifting. Thanks for sharing today!

Congrats on winning a machine! I have the Janome Jem Platinum as well, to take with me to workshops and such. It’s 12 years old, but always working like a dream. I quilted a number of quilts on that small machine, but it wasn’t easy!

it is a dependable little machine – I thought maybe I should save it for travel but when we travel I prefer to just do hand work and read so I really think I will pass it to Melanie (daughter) and she will get a a lot of use out of it.

I am sooo happy for you! When I read your name under the sewing machine win, I was smiling so much! Yay!! One of my sisters had a babylock for years before she totally wore it out and moved up to a Bernina. It was a great little machine, never any tension problems etc., just wasn’t up for the work of actual heavy machine quilting. Just for sewing blocks etc., it probably would still be working today!

I’m hoping I will love it that much too!! I still have a hard time believing I won a machine like that and — I almost didn’t enter!
