It Was a Slow Sunday

Fall Harvest (scrappy baskets), Round We Go

We woke up to a cold front coming through on Sunday – we expected it – we both happened to wake up early at 5:30 and it was 72 degrees out – by 8 AM it was down to 66 and before you know it down to 58 then back up gradually to 68.  I think it will be in the mid 40’s at night all week and barely 70?  It will be nice for a change.

I spent a good part of the day reading a book – Melanie had recommended an series to me by an author I had never heard of and now I am on #4  (there are 7 right now) and have been thoroughly enjoying this set.  The books are by Susan Elia MacNeal and are the Maggie Hope mysteries.  They take place in the WWII era in England and parts of Europe (these are rather new books the first written in 2012) .  I had never heard of the author and was glad to  have a different author than I normally read – very easy going – more in the style of books from the late 60’s to 70’s – not the graphic stuff that is out now that I know some of you do not like.  I have been able to get these all from the local library on line.

Some applique did get done on Fall Harvest and one side of the border is coming along nicely – I think 3 leaves left on the first side to do? something like that.  I just got started on the large orangey color one on the left.  Linking to Love, Laugh, Quilt:Monday Making  and  Em’s Scrapbag: Moving it Forward and Small Quilts & Doll Quilts and MCM#92 .

Also got one more Round We Go circle star cut out and it is ready for EPP.  I’m not sure I like these colors but I said that on another one too and it is up on the wall – there are plenty of them to mix together in the end so maybe the ones I don’t care for as much now will end up blending nicely.  They always look better once sewn right!

These are the ones done right now – it is the green/blue in the upper right that I don’t know if I will like in the end.

I have to start the fall outside chores soon and I always end up being so slow at it.  I have bulbs to plant and one bed that I wanted to dig up and divide plants – I kind of wonder if I will have the energy to do it though – outside work can be so hard can’t it when you get to be 65!!

I am glad you had a relaxing cool day to enjoy your new to you book series… I prefer books and shows that are less graphic than today’s stuff tends to be also. I rarely slow down enough in my brain to read a book any more… but I love listening to music so I listen to that a LOT as I do other things… LOL!
I love the leaves.. I agree that circle block you have prepared doesn’t feel like the rest of the blocks but maybe it will assimilate when there are more to compare it to… it is lovely … just doesn’t go with the colors you have used thus far to me in pics at least.
Kudos to you for getting any yard work done once the cold sets in.. I have terrible arthritis and can’t go near being outside in cold or cool weather… but then I am living in Florida at present… so I guess I don’t have to worry with that as a problem for me yet. we are chatting about moving in the next year… to North Carolina maybe or somewhere we can get seasons and still be within vacation destination of the mountains and the beach! Best of both worlds… and back to some seasons and some hills… we miss those too! Ah well lament all I want but we will see! Have a good Monday hope it stays cool again for you 😀 Kathi

usually I read books with more action in them but these are a nice slower pace for a change.
you will have a bit of change if you can’t stand being out in cold weather – that doesn’t really seem to make any difference in my arthritis and I am out in all weather – it is the lack of muscle strength that makes outside chores difficult for me

I have been reading those Maggie Hope books for years, and I really enjoy them. Wish it wouldn’t be so long between them. If you haven’t discovered the Maisie Dobbs books by Jacqueline Winspear, you may enjoy those, too.

I will have a look at that author too too – I’m pretty sure Melanie has mentioned that one too

It was down to 42 here this morning. Good sleeping weather but the heat is turned on to take the chill off the house. I’ll have to check out that author. I would like another series to read.

48 degrees here – I thought it was going to get colder and didn’t have a window cracked open in the bedroom – I should have got a bit stuffy and woke early. I’m sure I will need to turn the heat on in the morning soon – but so far haven’t had to. I’m always on the look out for new to me authors.

I will have to see if the little library down the road has those books 🙂

The cool front moved in here overnight / 45 this morning and will go up to about 72. Everything is drenched from rain last night as well.

I know there will be at least one more grass cutting session here ! 🙂

we have not been getting much rain here – I have one section of the property mowed for the last time I bet and still need to get another area – things are really dried up here, very little rain since early September

I love books set in WWII so will have to see if I can find them at my library. Glad you are enjoying some cooler weather, and stitching on your leaves and Round We Go.

    • Karen Oct 16, 2017

I always love WWII books as well – some of the old authors that are no longer with us wrote some really get sets back in the 60’s

    Hi Karen,
Your weather sounds like ours on Sunday after full days of rain both Friday and Saturday. Don’t you just love it when you find a new author and you can catch up on their series? Ooh, so nice. I will try to remember that name and check out her books. ~smile~ Roseanne

Your EPP block will look great once it is together, I think. Great circle blocks, such pretty fabrics. Thanks for linking with Design Wall Mondays.

something about the colors was bugging me too much to use it – trashed it and started over with a new color scheme and much more pleased now

  • Beth Oct 16, 2017

Those circle stars are so graphic – I love them! They’ll be appliqued to a top, right? I would like to make some, you know, when I don’t have anything else to do. 🙂 We have cooler weather today and the rest of this week, I’m enjoying it so much!

    • Karen Oct 16, 2017

yes they will be appliqued to a top – I didn’t like the last one I cut out LOL it got tossed and I did up a different today

  • Jaye Oct 16, 2017

Love the Susan Elia MacNeal books! I just finished the last one. The books get more intense as the series goes along.

Sorry for being so late but we were on the road for 12 hours and here we are at my daughter’s in Kentucky. It’s a bit cooler here than back home in Texas. Your circle block was cute, just a bit different color family than your other ones. I wish I had more time to read, maybe after my yard clean up is done. I spend too much of my spare time on hand sewing, lol.
