Leaves are Glue Basted

Fall Harvest (scrappy baskets), Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Round We Go, sewing room

Before I get started with my post would you believe it was almost 90 degrees on Monday and the high for Tuesday was at 1:00 AM when it was still near 80 and the temperature fell all day and will be down in the high 40’s by Wednesday morning – fall has arrived!!  it was 59 degrees most of the day and too windy to enjoy a walk outside!  Of course it is not supposed to last long and will now be back and forth into the high 70’s to 80’s and near 58 or so at night I guess for the next week – but fall is on it’s way.

Fall Harvest is ready for the applique. Monday night I was able to spread out the quilt top on the new work table and raise up so I didn’t have to bend over (how great is that) and got busy with the glue.  I would glue some then go do something else and let it have a chance to dry a little bit then come back and shift things around and glue some more.

And the lovely thing about this quilt frame is I use it for so many different things – Monday night it was being used for a drying rack.  I let it hang all night and let the glue dry- Tuesday morning I took it back to the work table next to the Gutermann Thread Cabinet and picked out threads to use for applique.

Threads chosen, the quilt is folded and in the living room now ready for me to stitch when sitting in the evening or day time.

See how high the table goes!  Nice!

Round We go number 2 of pattern number 2 is coming along nicely.

Someone asked what is the name of the fabric design on the edge flowery pieces – I don’t know – it was in the Hancock’s of Paducah scrap bag that I got last month and there was no salvage edge on any of the pieces in the bag and they obviously came from the same fabric bundle – maybe some of you recognize it?  Here is a close up.

And Yes! Tuesday night I got started loading the quilt on the quilting frame – more on that tomorrow – I was getting tired and didn’t finish – I have the top on the back rail now and took photos as I went along – I will get back to it today.  The room always looks so crowded when I am loading a quilt but I work from the back on this part so it is ok, when I need to work from the front I push it back towards the wall a bit.  This is so much easier without all the stuff that had been stored under the frame all the time.  I do not want to go back to that mess – I had two machines stored under the frame, plastic boxes full of batting and all sorts of things – so grateful for my storage cupboard on the other end of the room – I am not done organizing still as I have things on top of the dresser in the bedroom but it will be done. Some things will stay in the closet as well and I need to reorganize that too.

Now I know some of you think I am the energizer bunny and never sit down – but I write my post the night before and schedule it for morning so what you see is from Monday late in the day or night and Tuesday daytime into evening – so the work really is spread out over a spell – and keep in mind – no pets to care for and no grandchildren under foot – they don’t live near me.  My time is my own especially with Mike working a good 20-30 hours a week right now he works late afternoon and evening simulator schedule at the nuclear training facility – so I’m not spending much time cooking.   Linking up to My Quilt InfatuationJo’s Country JunctionQuilt Fabrication:Mid Week MakersEm’s Scrap BagSew Fresh Quilts  this morning.

Your new sewing set up is looking great, and you’re obviously already putting it to good use! How practical that new table is as well, very useful.
Love the scrappy baskets quilt and looking forward to seeing how you quilt the stars one.

Beautiful frame.. beautiful quilt..the neutrals with twining vine and leaves on neutrals are really zippy…. good combinations …. these go together …. Our temp last night was 35…brrrrr. Might have to turn on my furnace…. but certainly get out the warm bathrobes.

I have my warm fuzzy robe out this morning – 50 this morning – quite a change from two days ago at 90/66

The leaves are going to add such a pretty touch to the borders of that quilt! Enjoy your stitching!

    • Karen Oct 11, 2017

thanks – I think this border is going to work out just fine now!

I think I’m as excited as you are that you are back in your sewing room! Are you going to have shelves above the quilting rack again?

    • Karen Oct 11, 2017

right now I am not planning on shelves above the quilting frame but I might have one above the table. I like the openness the room has right now without all the shelves above the quilting frame and the table area – but I would like to get a few things off the table to make it less “stuff” and more room to work so probably well have one above the table.

    Hi Karen,
That table is a gem! How wonderful and handy that you are able to change the height as needed for whatever project you are working on. The leaves and stems turned out great! ~smile~ Roseanne

yes glad Mike found the table base on line that had the requirements I wanted and another on line source for the table tops in the sizes we wanted.

Your Fall Harvest looks so beautiful on your quilting frame! I love it. I know how happy you must be to be back in your sewing room, you just seem to be so happy! You have the same flower thread holder I have. I just love looking at the pretty flower. The table is simply genius, I’m only 5’5″ tall and tables are always a bit high for me. It was 52 this morning and 76 high for today. The sun is shining and it’s a beautiful fall day, tomorrow back to 90, lol!

    • Karen Oct 11, 2017

and I always find work tables way too short for me! it is so nice being able to change the height of the table.

Loving projects your working on. And so awesome you have time to yourself – I wouldn’t mind less cooking!

    • Karen Oct 11, 2017

I must admit cooking regular meals is not my favorite – I love baking – but hubby needs to loose weight so that enjoyment is not here at the moment – if I bake I must immediately give most of it away and put the rest other than one piece in the freezer!

As always, your work is magnificent! We’re having similar weather way up here!

thanks Karen – you must be about a month off from heading south

Love the autumn leafy border on your quilt! It’s a perfect time of year to be working on that!
Do you have a TV in your new quilting room? Do you watch/listen to the TV as you’re sewing or hand quilting?

    • Karen Oct 11, 2017

no tv in the quilting room but I use my laptop or Ipad to watch Netflix and amazon prime. I always have something to watch while I am quilting. I put my laptop at the top of the quilting frame over a board so heat doesn’t get trapped under the laptop. I do a lot of my hand work on the couch though and will do a lot of my hand stitching watching recorded shows so I can zip through ads.

I like it better every time too! For awhile I wasn’t sure if I would like it in the end

  • Janice Holton Oct 11, 2017

Oh Karen, what a wonderful feeling to be getting your sewing space organized and back to functioning the way you want it to. That’s just a great big “Ahhhh!”

well winning that sewing machine has kind of put my sewing area into a mess today – the sewing table I thought would work for it won’t so back to the drawing board for that but the quilting frame is up and running so that’s good
