Happy Thanksgiving!

Baking/cooking, Life in General, Murrieta Stars – Flannel, scrap quilts

All of us in the states are eating our turkeys, hams, side dishes and pumpkin pie and things today – and the rest of you are wondering why we like all things pumpkin!  I read that someplace I don’t remember where I saw it – yes a  lot of us like pumpkin and seem to only eat it in the fall. I had my pies made by afternoon yesterday.  Three Pumpkin and 1 pecan.  Melanie will take some home with her otherwise I would be eating pie for for awhile – and I eat too much of it and will need to get some walks in the next couple of days.

I love these pie crust shields that I bought last year – you can find them in a variety of places – Amazon has them here – just wrap them around your crust about half way through the baking time and your crust won’t get too dark.  I have 3 of them now and I think I will get another – they come in single packs or double.

In the morning while pies were baking I finished piecing the rows of the scrappy charm package quilt together.

Then later in the afternoon after it was all pressed I got the first border cut – it is just stuck to the wall right now it is not pieced to the body of the quilt.  I have two borders of green and two of brown – the next border will be the opposite brown by the green and green by the brown.  Should I turn those Half Square corners so the color is on the inside of the border or keep them pointing out?  I’m contemplating so I didn’t sew it yet.

I was asked to show a better photo of the thread cone holder that I have – this is it – I got it as a present a couple years ago – Mike got it from Connecting Threads (no affiliation)– I checked – it is still there – it is nice and study and decorative besides being useful.

This much quilting done on Murrieta Stars on Tuesday night.

This much left to do before it gets rolled down again – I was working on it last night for awhile.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, too. Delicious looking pies! Thanks for posting the pic of the cone holder. It’s a lovely piece of functional art and knowing your husband gave it to you makes it sweeter.

yes it is a pretty piece of sewing art. Have a Good day

I really love the quilt! I would leave top triangles the way they are and turn the bottom facing out. I’m making apple pies today & rolls – that’s my contribution to a big family dinner.

    • Karen Nov 23, 2017

yes the bottom pieces should have been facing out – thanks – knew it didn’t look quite right!

Happy Thanksgiving to you too, Karen and to your family . Your pies look delicious, especially the pecan, it’s my favorite. I like the four corners of the quilt pointing out the best. My turkey is baking and everything else is prepped. Have a wonderful day with your family!

I have a lot of prep of the side dishes to do this morning but it usually goes quickly – I’m taking time to enjoy my second cup of coffee after chatting with DD in WI this morning and then I will get busy! I love pecan pie too but it is so rich isn’t it

Happy Thanksgiving to you and yours Karen. I haven’t seen the pie crust shields here in the UK, it’s a great idea. Have a wonderful day.

I can never get aluminum foil to stay put around the pie crusts – they always fall so I was very glad to see these a couple years ago some place and get some of them even if I only use them a couple times a year

thanks and seeing as there is no cone holder for this sewing machine I will be using it even if it sits on top of a big book or something so it will be at the right level as one person suggested

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Karen. We’re having our feast tomorrow at my DD’s. She works and wanted to do it, so Friday is a better day. Your pies look yummy, especially the pecan. Blessings,

yes the pecan pie was delightful – but so full of calories LOL – there are several pieces left and I think they need to be moved to the freezer for another time!
