Round We Go

Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Round We Go

Thought I better get back to Round We Go if I am going to keep up with 4 a month – I have not done any this month.  I thought I selected the colors right, now I look at the photo and think the light green triangles might be too light.  Do you think the Star shape stands out enough or should I look for a shade or two darker or even go with the same shade used in the bigger “almost” red pieces?  I haven’t started the stitching so it can still be changed – I messed up on a couple of these and really trying to select the star colors better so they stand out!

Fall Harvest is now folded and put away in the “to be quilted” box and I took Handful of Scraps off the wall as I will start to get back to work on it in the next couple days.  There are two applique projects that are not on the wall and maybe I should put them up so I remember them!! Hope to get back to work on them soon.

It was so nice yesterday – I got to work outside and got a lot of leaves raked up and ready to get mulched with the mower this week and spread mulch all around the garden area to keep weeds from growing.  Mike got a new battery for the car – I had a dead car yesterday, luckily we were at the same place but had taken separate vehicles (fitness center) as we were going to different places when we got done with our workouts  – was able to jump start the battery and brought it home so Mike could check the battery out – yup needed a new one – the week before I had a flat tire in the driveway – had been a slow leak from a nail – what next? hope that is it!

I agree that replacing the light green in your Round We Go block would make the star points show up better. I love seeing all your different blocks up on the wall.

thanks Julie – I wonder what others well say – I’m putting this circle on hold for part of the day while I await more input

Agreed-something a little darker will make the star POP. At least it is only 3 pieces!
Cars do go in cycles, but do hate those DEEP valleys….went through a month when every Thursday I had a major problem ranging from $500-$800-I got so I didn’t even want to get out of bed on a Thursday! 🙂 Susan R

yes Thursdays would have been a problem for me too LOL – I think I am going to try out a color almost the same as the bigger pieces in the red family and see what happens

  • Carole Nov 13, 2017

Your quilting plan looks just super!! Your projects in progress all look great too.

When I look at your block I see a triangle shape with the red and the green fades to the background. I’d do those pieces in something darker to make the star shape stand out. Hopefully your car troubles are over!

yes I think too those pieces must be changed – glad I noticed almost immediately

  • Doreen Nov 13, 2017

The green, though my fave color, is not quite ‘strong’ enough in this setting…..so pretty, though! We sure depend on our vehicles, hmmmm??? Your design wall looks so tidy!

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

thanks Doreen – yes I think the light green needs to be changed to something darker

  • Jayne Nov 13, 2017

I like those stars so much!! I agree with all the other comments…go a little darker! I love seeing what others do with their EPP’s! I’ve been working on some diamond stars for months now and hope to one day see what they all look like laid out!

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

darker wins out ! glad I noticed when I did before I started to stitch 🙂

The blocks on your wall are so colorful and fun! I especially like the birds. I, too, would replace the light green in your Round We Go block. Hopefully your car is done causing problems. 🙂

I hope my car is done with the minor troubles too – it has over 100,000 but is a Honda and never really has problems same as the last one we had which had more miles and was good until someone hit it 7 years ago!

Fun peek at your design wall! It looks big and so useful! Looks like the quilting on Murrieta Stars is really moving along.

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

it is a good size wall but it is on a short wall, I wish it was another foot higher – but hey I have a wall so I love it

  • Dottie bishaw Nov 13, 2017

Yes, I agree with everyone else, the green needs to be darker like your other star points. I just finished with the leaves outside, quite a job with burr oak leaves, and I don’t even have one. I get them from both sides of the yard from neighbors, lol! Your quilting is really progressing, so pretty. Glad you got your car all fixed up.

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

kind of sad when you have to clean up your yard and you don’t have a tree! I have a lot of leaves ahead for me to clean up

I love the round blocks and the Murietta stars. What color quilting thread are you using? It almost looks blue in the pictures but that might be from the marking pen, or monitor tricks on my eyes. I had forgotten all about your sweet birdie blocks. It’s nice to see them up on your wall!

the thread is kind of a greenish/blue – Aqua – it says Jade but I think it is more Aqua in color but I guess the two are close to the same.

  • Diane Nov 13, 2017

I agree with prior posts, that pale green is pretty but too light for your star. A red, either the same or similar would be pretty. I love your birds! Good luck with your car.

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

I found a similar shade and have the pieces cut out. It is so nice to hear from all that yes I was on the right track and thought the green was just not quite right. Car ran great today – hope for no more problems!

  • Carla Nov 13, 2017

Definitely darker but you probably have it done by now

    • Karen Nov 13, 2017

LOL – yes Carla I have – I had searched my red/pink bins and found a shade similar to the other but different and like it much better now

  • Kate Nov 14, 2017

Being honest at first glance I thought the star was a triangle, so my instinct would be to replace the green. Your design wall looks wonderful, and it’s so big! I can’t get a full quilt on mine, but I’m not complaining, before I made mine earlier this year I didn’t have one and the alternative was the floor or the bed. Yay for small design walls!

    • Karen Nov 14, 2017

yes I am replacing the green

  • Judy Hansen Nov 16, 2017

I am looking forward to seeing the stars with a darker fabric replacement for the green. I learn so much about color value from blocks that I’ve made in the past – one of the things I like about quilting, you can never know too much about fabric and how it interacts with other fabrics around it. Thanks for linking up with Design Wall Monday on Small Quilts and Doll Quilts.
