A Finish

Handful of Scraps, Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Round We Go

ACHR0832Handful of Scraps top is finished!  I had originally planned for a much bigger quilt – but I have plenty of big quilts and more big quilts waiting in line to be quilted so this is a small one – it finished at 56.5 x 61.5 inches – I started it in May 2016.

Handful of Scraps

My “to be quilted” box is overflowing now – I will have to take the quilts out another day and see how many are in it – I think 4 or possibly 5 – at least 2 are queen size that I remember for sure.

To Be Quilted

I might get back to work on Round We Go for a week or two – I have 3 more circles to make of the pattern on the bottom – those were supposed to be done in November and here it is almost the end of December – good thing I wasn’t officially participating in the monthly sign up for this one!!

Round We Go

This is where I was picking up on Murrieta Stars last night after I got done writing the blog post.  I am linking to Esther’s blog today.

Good for you! It feels good to finish and putting a quilt away after working on it so long is also a good way to refresh your feelings about it. I have three hanging in the closet waiting for quilting right now. I may take the sampler I just finished to be long armed, but I’m waiting a while to see how I feel in a few weeks. I loved the way she did the last one I took to a friend, which was the first one she has quilted for me. She did it in just a couple of weeks, and I could tell she really cared about doing a wonderful job.

I have never had any desire to have someone use a long arm to quilt one of my quilts yet. Maybe one day but right now I am still at the point where I want to quilt my own quilts. I need to look through all my quilts and see if there are any that I will quilt by machine myself or if I will just slow down and get caught up LOL

Congratulations Karen, what a beautiful job of finishing your quilt! You give me such high hope of finishing mine, one hexie at a time I guess, lol!. You scare me a bit when I look at all the beautiful quilts you have to be quilted! They take my breath away when I think of how fast you are in making them. I got my book for the Hertfordshire quilt today, it’s quite an ambitious project isn’t it? We shall see how it goes, should be interesting. I really like your Round We Go stars, so pretty. We had over a inch of rain last night, and I got my daffodils planted yesterday in the nick of time. Have you planted yours?

  • Karen Dec 19, 2017

I always leave my daffodils in the ground and they come back here – the tulips I have to replant every year if I want them – I planted them at the end of November. Yes the Hertforshire quilt looks challenging – one step at a time on that one!

Congratulations on finishing Handful of Scraps! All that hand piecing – so amazing! I think that’s a great size for covering up in a chair to read a book or something.

    • Karen Dec 19, 2017

thanks Diann – I found one more tin of basted hexies in all the colors I used plus others – I guess I will have enough for another project sometime down the road – maybe some pillows or something?

thanks Karen – it will be a really good size for on a chair or couch – you know how it is in winter with freezing at times!

Handful of Scraps is so lovely! And it’s really the perfect lap quilt size. It’s good to have a few smaller ones too. I’m like you always making the large quilts, but lately I’ve been trying to just let them just end when it’s time!

    • Karen Dec 20, 2017

I have to remind myself it is ok to go smaller

I guess it is just small to me because I make so many large quilts 🙂 And yes my box is full I need to really take my time with some quilt tops now and try to get my quilting caught up for sure – it is a pleasure to read your blog and see all the wonderful plants and things you have in your part of Australia I never tire of looking at your little bugs and critters and flowers!
