So Much Fabric

Murrieta Stars – Flannel, Round We Go

Yesterday I was going through the box of fabric that I had set aside for Handful of Scraps when I thought it was going to grow to be a big quilt – well as you can see from yesterdays post it didn’t continue to grow and now I have fabric to fold and put in boxes and on the shelf and empty out this bigger box.  Yes where do I put all of this now LOL – and yes a whole tin of basted 7/8th inch hexies in colors that will no longer be used in this quilt.  They will eventually be made into something else but at this time I don’t know what.  Lots of neutrals to be put into other things too!  Sometimes when I plan a quilt I go through the shelves and bins and pull out fabric I think I will or could use so that I don’t end up using it for something else- that way it is there if I need it and if I end up not using it – back on the shelf it goes for another quilt. ( I have one more tin of pre cut hexies in neutrals as well-not basted I forgot to add them to the pile)

Besides this box of fabric that I have I’m sure some of you think I must have a ton – well in my mind I have a lot but I know of a lot of bloggers who have a ton more!  This is my stash store:

And 18 shoe boxes of pieces folded fq or less  and about 12 cardboard boxes like the one on the shelf here that have precut squares from scraps and one of them I think has half square triangles and two of strings and a few other small boxes here and there of various bits and pieces – and there are two plastic boxes in the closet full of scraps – so yes I shop the stash first and with no local quilt shop this is why I have this.  Keep in mind too that a lot of what is in these boxes are bits and pieces left over from quilts made in the last 20 years – if you do not like to make scrap quilts – get what you need and no more.

I also got some fabric picked out for the next Round We Go circle star – the beige with the red in it will for the area that is shown in blue on the sample of the pattern envelope, the two reds for the points and the white with black polka dots the outer edges.  I would like to get caught up on this pattern.  I should be finishing up pattern number 4 by now.  I am linking to Sew Fresh Quilts  — My Quilt InfatuationMidweek MakersJo’s Country Junction

Murrieta Stars from Monday night

Yesterday besides exercising and doing some household chores I got several cookie doughs made but haven’t baked them, they needed to chill so thought I would get the dough made one day and baked over the next couple.  Melanie and I will be going shopping this evening after she gets done with work to pick up last minute things.

(I am compensated for any purchases made through my links.)

I pretty much do the same thing you do when starting a project. After it’s finished, then there’s the process of returning what I didn’t use to various places in my stash. I don’t have as extensive a collection as you but I do have those bins and plastic shoe boxes to shuffle around. I just started a new wool applique project so am using my wool stash now – it is being reduced to snippets which is nice but means if I do anything in the future I’ll need to shop. There’s a lady down the road about 1/2 mile who has a mail order business. I’ve never visited her studio – guess that’s something I will enjoy doing in 2018.

someone sent me a bit of wool for the stash I never intended to have two boxes of wool for the little applique that I plan to do – now I need to decide do I keep trying to work some with wool and use the drab colors sent to me or keep my bright pieces only that I wanted to use and pass the drabs on

So organized! Care to come and clear out my area? I need to go through things and put things back (so fun to pull it out but I hate putting it back!). I think next week is a good time to organize and ‘find’ project that maybe will get finished in 2018. I too have fabrics from the last 25 years of quilting. I think it multiplies at night!
Those hexagons would be a fun little take with you project.

yes the hexies would be a great take along project for something. I love being organized LOL – but I hate trying to find a spot for all of those pieces in the box – I will need to get out a couple more shoe boxes I think

I love your fabric stash, so welll organized! I enjoy pulling fabric for a project, but don’t enjoy the process of finding places for the leftovers though. I just got my William Morris bundle in the mail today, so lovely. I’m waiting for the Morris yardage to come in, Christmas present for myself, lol! I had two other bundles, but decided to save those for the Hertfordshire quilt. I’ve got the two books now and am all ready to start whenever you do yours. If it takes you a couple years, it will take me even longer since I’m not as fast as you, lol! Beautiful material for the star.

what fabric scheme are you using in your Hertfordshire quilt Dottie? Start whenever you want don’t wait on me! I probably won’t start until the new year and try to concentrate on catching up on Round we Go for the rest of the year.

Your fabric storage is pretty and neat, Karen! I need to go work on my sewing room. That sounds like a good January project! Your leftover hexies might make a pillow to go with Handful of Scraps – you might have mentioned that in yesterday’s post! I’m sure all those neutrals will find their way into other projects!

yes I like nice and neat 🙂 haven’t a clue what I will use the hexies for but I’m sure something will pop into my mind eventually

I have two bundles of 40 fat quarters by Moda, both are by Jan Patek. One is called Hawthorn Ridge and the other one is Garden House. I’ll use other fabric from my stash too, trying not to buy fabric for this one, since I bought so much for Morning Glory. I can’t start right now either because of the holidays and still working on my hexies and little baskets. I do want to do these two, but it will be a long, slow process I know.

I’m sure those will be pretty – I will need to do a search and see what they look like
