Working on Decorating

Life in General, Murrieta Stars – Flannel

img-thingI must admit I am not really all that much into Christmas this year – I don’t know why – usually I am raring to go to get the house decorated and this year my feet are dragging.  We got started yesterday, ran out of lights – misplaced? used too many to start – I don’t know but Mike didn’t have enough for the tree so we went to Wal-Mart to get more lights – and yes it was crowded – but I did get one present and had an arm load of stuff – hadn’t thought to get a cart when we first walked in – mistake because I never walk back out of the store with the one item I went to get – do you?  I saw an empty cart as we were getting close to a finish – there was a lady near it I asked if it was hers or anyone near by and she said no so I dumped my stuff in it and so did Mike and we went to the plant area to pay as it wasn’t near so crowded and got out of there.

So anyhow the tree has lights but all the decorations are still waiting to be put on the tree – I will get to it later today.   (at night it looks good as is)  Those are mainly empty boxes under the tree – they belong to my mom and she loved the boxes so I kept them and put them under the tree as they are pretty – they all had things in them that I had given to her for presents and she kept the boxes too.

My mother’s wreath that I made her years ago hanging on the sewing room door – a nice memory of her fun hanging it on her door every year first at her apartment in the senior complex and then at the assisted living center where she lived for 2 years before she died.

Some of the yearly decorations here

and the few that I put in the dining room – an old wall hanging over the chair for now while I think of where to put it – made years ago and one end is crooked – I keep thinking maybe I need to cut off the outer border of it and redo it seeing as I don’t like the unevenness and it bothers me.

Two paper whites growing in water on the windowsill and a little bit of Christmas dishes out – mainly it is the Xmas tree that I need to get decorated and then all the boxes back out to the workshop

A clutter of stuff by the fireplace – I need to get the little trees put someplace and have too many things on the fireplace and the floor – still need to do the clean up!

Oh well – I will get to it all sometime today!

A little quilting from yesterday I had just spritzed some blue lines out so that is why it looks darker – it will dry.  I am linking to Small Quilts/Doll QuiltsMCM #99 — Em’s Scrapbag — and Love Laugh Quilt.

I love your home christmas decor and how your mom is all around in your decorating… all very nice complementing to your home Karen!
Great work on your flannel quilt you are working on… I bought wool socks for a Christmas present to me on etsy and am anxiously awaiting their arrival… my honey needs it cooler in the house than I would like so these socks even in a florida cool spell will come in handy!! Will still check out craftsy sales… do you have a new fave class to recommend though? Thanks for being a sponsor and keeping me in the loop on them and when they are having great sales!
Here I am near rolling and viewing the top border of this big quilt I am quilting on the frame… will post a few photos I have taken this weekend on Kathy’s I suppose… but just happy to get close to seeing the end of this project BEFORE the accepting couple has their first anniversary! lol Kathi

I don’t really have a class to recommend right now Kathi I just haven’t had time to look them over – one that has been on my mind though is the quilt as you go classes. I haven’t taken any but Marti Michell has one that looks interesting – I think they are mainly for small projects though and by machine of course. I have thought in the coming years I will need to be making more quilts strictly by machine so thought that might be an interesting one to take – if you search on her name you should find some or put in “quilt as you go” and it might take you to a variety of them. I have a blogging friend in Germany that has sent me 3 pair of hand knit wool socks over the years and I use them a lot over winter. I like to decorate with family memories and have things from many years ago – the oldest being the Nativity stable my grandpa made the year I was born.

You are several steps ahead of me Karen! I have a table runner on the dining room table, and 3 candles on the side table. My tree is nowhere to be seen. LOL Hmm, maybe next weekend? Your decorations look festive, and your home looks so comfy. I love that your have your Mom’s memories all over your house.

I love having my mom memories too – it has been about 3 years now and we miss her I always made a special trip to drive and see her in this season – her birthday was Dec. 16th and I would make xmas cookies to fill up a box to bring her and go xmas shopping. I really need to get that tree finished today!!

I agree that it’s fun to see memories of your mom throughout your decorating. I’m with Beth, my tree is nowhere to be seen either, yet. I think this weekend it will come home with us. We’ll see. Then the rest of the decorating will happen.

I’m glad to know I am not the only slow person decorating this year – December arrived rather quickly I think!! I love keeping old things to add to the decorating and glad I have some things that I gave to mom over the years and even have the old Nativity stable that grandpa made the year I was born.

I think you are well and away with all your lovely Christmas touches here and there. I had little grandson come to “help” me decorate this year so that got me started.
It appears we both live in wooden/log houses. The Christmas decor really suits.

🙂 we wanted a log home but never got one so have remodeled the inside to be as much wood as we can! I need to try to finish the tree later today and get the boxes back in storage

I think it gets harder and harder decorating each year. Perhaps if we entertained or had a lot of people in and out, but we don’t. A tree is a must regardless of feelings!! You did pretty well decorating around each room, so you must of got into it at some point! And your quilt…it’s looking fabulous!

    • Karen Dec 11, 2017

I think the year just flew by so fast I wasn’t ready for December and the holidays and mainly we are by ourselves now and do not entertain much

    Hi Karen,
I think you have lots of decorations up! I love the look of the tree with just lights on it – I can sit at night and look at it for hours. I have a little skating rink that I set up as part of my village. It has skaters on it that skate around (magnets) and that combined with the tree lights just look so pretty and peaceful. I wasn’t much in the mood this year either but once it was all out it brought me around. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

I quilt in the evening – I rarely do sewing in the daytime but my evenings are spent with fabric

  • Diann Bottrell Dec 11, 2017

It’s always fun seeing the Christmas decorations going up! You have many fun things, Karen! I’m just about done, except for the Nativity. I should do that today!

    • Karen Dec 11, 2017

Mike is working on outside lights – it is 65 degrees – tomorrow 20 degrees cooler – better get it done today I say — I’m done in the house

  • Vicki V Dec 11, 2017

I like having my decoration sup, I just hate doing the actual decorating! I only have the fireplace mantle left to do.

    • Karen Dec 11, 2017

I think I need someone hired to decorate the house – I love it decorated but don’t really like the mess of dealing with it –

    • Karen Dec 11, 2017

found a spot for the grinch xmas card you sent me last year nestled in the tree!

  • Thimbleanna Dec 11, 2017

Your house is looking beautiful and festive. I think it’s easy for us to think we’re so late “this year” decorating because we see so many others online who have it done so early. I haven’t done anything yet — and that’s normal for me LOL!

    • Karen Dec 11, 2017

that might be it exactly – I have a sister in law and niece that barely let Halloween get away before they are putting up Xmas.

  • Belarmina Dec 12, 2017

    • Karen Dec 12, 2017
