My Car is Wounded

Life in General, Murrieta Stars – Flannel

Yes I had a little mishap with my car yesterday – I got hit at a stop light – the back fender is going to have to be replaced for sure – but I’m ok and that is what counts and maybe a young man has learned to not follow closely and to not hit the gas until the car in front of him has left the intersection!  Get this he told the police officer it was my fault because the light turned green and I didn’t pull out quick enough – buddy you need to wait to drive until the car in front of you has moved!  Needless to say the cop said it was not my fault but his.

A little more quilting has gotten done and that was it. Hopefully in the next couple days I will decide what to work on next and get in gear – I’ve been a little lax in the sewing room lately.  Linking to Busy Hands QuiltsConfessions of a Fabric AddictCrazy Mom Quilts .

It is slowly getting warmer though and only one more night of cold weather and then rain and low 50’s in the forecast – I’m ready for it.  I did get some house cleaning done yesterday morning and went and exercised (before the accident) but I didn’t get done with much else.  My work table is still empty and maybe I will get busy tomorrow –

Hello from blizzard land-augh. Brrr. I got hit from the rear & ‘I didn’t know the car in front of you was turning!” Pay attention, I think. That was even before the cell phone crazies that have to be connected every second. Glad no whiplash! Glad it is getting warmer SOMEWHERE!

I’m a little achey this morning but just a little more than usual – it won’t be like the last accident I was in about 7 years ago when someone hit my side of the car and I had a cracked sternum from the seatbelt and whiplash – I think it took me about 6 months before I could move pretty good and lift anything over 10 pounds without hurting!

I hit the track on our garage door and did a “little” damage to the front side of our car. All my fault! At least the garage door is fine, but the little fender bender was pricey. Ugh! Something like that can really take the wind out of your sails for a day. Glad you weren’t hurt, and I hope the guy behind you learned a lesson.

Don’t you hate it when it is your fault and to hit the garage door, I do not have one but once when visiting my daughter and using her car now and then I refused to park in the garage as her SUV is big and the garage small and already had one vehicle in it – I was afraid to especially after seeing the dent in the wall of the house inside the garage that she had done with her car at some point!!

  • Deb Jan 5, 2018

Glad that the damage was minimal and you are ok 🙂

I’m a little achy today but not bad, I expected to have the muscles tighten up a little as I had already been having some arthritis trouble in my neck and shoulders recently – Not bad enough to go to the doctor.

  • Kathi Jan 5, 2018

So happy you didn’t get hit hard from behind and left with a neck ache or worse damage… sorry that happened to ya still!!! Hopefully the new bumper will be all you need and your insurance will cover a rental whilst that occurs.
Glad you are seeing an end to the cold weather there… we have had weather in the 20’s the last 2 nights and I survived it… lol! We should be back up into the 60’s and 70’s though next week. Have a wonderful day working on one of your projects.. you will have this one off the frame soon and binding to go on… did you already decide the binding and prep it?? Kathi

you reminded me to check for the binding for the flannel quilt – I’m not sure if I put some aside or if I intended to use some that was left over and rolled up – I will need to check that – must be why I put that big bundle of left over flannel on the shelf!

I’m glad you weren’t injured! Your quilting is coming along beautifully. This will be such a warm and cozy quilt.

me too – a little achy but not bad – I’m wondering if this flannel quilt will be heavy for a normal Arkansas winter – I have two quilts on the bed right now with this cold spell but almost got too warm with them last night

Sounds like the kid has only learned to deflect blame. Probably from a lifetime of successful practice.
Chris had a mishap with a deer last week so his car is in the shop too.

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

that is what I thought it sounded like – I did like hearing the cop explain the rules to the kid though and the kid saying several times “but the light turned green” and the cop saying you still have to wait for the person in front of you to drive.
Hope the deer damage wasn’t bad!

Being hit like that is no fun, and definitely changes your day! I’m glad you are all right. Hope things are warming up there, and today goes much better!

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

no it isn’t – very startling for sure!

  • Roseanne Jan 5, 2018

    Hi Karen,
Most of my accidents have been rear-endings. How can that be your fault?!! One person told the police her foot slipped off the break. What?!! Another one said she was looking for the shoe store. HAHAHAHA – but you still have to watch traffic in front of you! She slammed into me at 40 mph. I’m so glad to hear you weren’t injured!! Cars can be fixed with some annoying hassles – people aren’t as easy to repair. I hope you’re not feeling the affects today – sometimes they show up the next day. ~smile~ Roseanne

just a few aches and pains but nothing that is all that much more than normal 🙂 – yes some people do not pay attention. A person my sister works with was in an accident last week and the person that hit the car said “well I thought you were going faster” – faster – so that gives you permission to not watch what you are doing or something – people! We were in one 7 years ago that was worse so glad this one was minor compared to that.

  • Thankfully, you are ok. I got hit from behind once as the young gal reached down to pick up her phone. It was my fault because “the car in front of you stopped causing you to stop suddenly causing me to slam into you.” I also got hit in the front as a young gal was making a left turn. It was also my fault because “you didn’t stop for me making a left turn” as I was driving thru the intersection that didn’t have a stop sign or stop light and she gunned it to make the turn. Thankfully, the police found both of them at fault. I think it’s this generation of kids; no one wants to be responsible.

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

that might be it – I’m glad that everyone was ok – but thought it would have been very nice for them to inquire if I was ok – instead all he wanted to do was exchange info and get off the road – no way – I was calling the police so I would have a report – the last accident the person didn’t have permission to drive the car he was driving, he didn’t have insurance and the owner of the vehicle didn’t give permission for his car to be borrowed so my insurance had to pay all and our car was totaled we had to pay a deductible but was very satisfied with our insurance company.

  • Dottie bishaw Jan 5, 2018

Oh I’m so glad that you’re okay. I hope that boy learned his lesson, hopefully. Take it easy today and let the aches go away. You are getting so close to the end of your quilting, it’s so exciting just watching you get there. I love finishes. Take care.

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

thanks Dottie – little sorer than usual today but not a lot – yes getting very close to an end on this quilt!

  • Lynette Jan 5, 2018

Your poor car! We’ve been rear-ended at stop lights no less than 5 times. The last time, I couldn’t help it – as I was popping out of the car right away, “You have GOT to be kidding me!” flew out of my mouth at the guy. That one had a suspended license. The one before was texting. The one before was high and didn’t even begin to stop – hit Scott really hard and slammed him into the car ahead, and as that was the third time, we’d already greatly increased the gap we leave between us and the car ahead. Pretty crazy! And yeah, twice the other driver’s insurance tried to get us to say it was our fault. Wait, are you kidding? That’s a no-brainer, and they know it. So glad you’re OK and not dealing with any major pains.

that is a lot of times having someone hit you – I have been lucky and it has rarely happened to me – this makes me realize thought to keep even more room between me and another car than I have been doing and to tell my daughter to remind my grandson who just got his license to make sure he is careful and to tell him what happened and how.

  • Kate Heads Jan 5, 2018

I’m so sorry to hear you had an accident, and very happy it wasn’t any worse, I hate drivers who get too close and those who are impatient. We all loose our sewing mojo now and again, ask me how I know. I look forward to seeing what you come up with next.

  • Barbara Jan 5, 2018

I bet he was looking at his cell phone and hit the gas without paying attention. Glad you are ok!

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

I don’t know about a phone, the police officer didn’t say anything about that – I hope that wasn’t the case.

  • Lea Jan 5, 2018

    I’m glad you are OK.

I’ve been rear ended so many times. I had a gray car and an insurance guy told me that gray cars blend into the road and drivers don’t always see them. Like people not seeing the break lights on red cars I guess.

One of the times the man who hit me said “I don’t have time for this.” Another time the man who hit me was drunk. I noticed it when he almost knocked himself over closing the door when he got out of the car, staggered over and I could smell booze far away. Another time the guy who hit me wanted to leave and not exchange info. Sheesh.

The quilt you are working on is going to be a beauty. Your quilting is fabulous!!

    • Karen Jan 5, 2018

I guess I have been lucky and this is the first time it happened to me in all my years of driving. People are so inconsiderate though from what I have been hearing today

  • Sue Daurio Jan 5, 2018

Did he really say that???? Oh boy, I laughed pretty hard that it might be your fault, you didn’t drive fast enough, hehehehe. But I am glad you are ok, that was quite a hit. Love what your doing on that quilt, the yellow is wonderful.

yes that is what he said – couldn’t believe it thought he needed to go back to driving school 🙂

  • Colleen Jan 5, 2018

I am so sorry the guy ran his car into yours it’s a good thing you are smart and had the police come, at least the guy was told by a police officer that it’s not ok to run into another car. I have to say I was the one who rear ended another car and I was young and the sun was right in my eyes and I didn’t see that the car in front of me had stopped or slowed and bam I hit it at a low speed. It was my fault insurance took care of it no one was hurt.
I learned from that, it really shook me up I think I became a much better driver from that.

    • Karen Jan 6, 2018

I have come very close to doing the same thing as you did – I would hope I would at least as if they were ok and understand it was fault! I think these close calls do make you a better driver
