Saturday was a busy cold day! First off we had snow – this is not something that happens every winter for us so –to me- it is nice to see, we had a couple inches, some of it melted right away, but we still have some here today. Snow off in the woods.
And a little bit on the deck – I know this isn’t much to most of you but this is an “Arkansas Snow Storm” and the local weathermen were excited and I bet a lot of kids were too – it is pretty while it last and it is the wet heavy kind to try to make snowmen out of if you can gather up enough!
I made a cheesecake with my instant pot and it turned out so good – I am a fan of the Instant Pot. The one I have is an 8 quart – it is large – it was a gi and I am happy with it. I will think on it for the winter and see what all I like to make in it – and I will look out in our little camper and see if I have room to store one – they do have a 3 quart also – much smaller but maybe more suitable for the camper? We will see. This is the classic 7 inch cheesecake for the instant pot.
I finished the neutral border for Good Fortune and although the bottom is wavy I keep in mind that it is getting heavy on the design wall and might not be completely hanging right – it actually looks smoother when it is on the floor. The top border is just stuck to the wall right now and not sewed in place. I will have to adjust the measurement somehow as mine is not exactly the same as Bonnie’s of course as I am not a precise piecer – I will need to fudge it a little and will work on it maybe at some point today. This border is the final border that Bonnie had on her quilt – when this border set it on the quilt will be about 72” or so – if I want it bed size I will need to add about 14 inches to each side – maybe a neutral piano keyboard type of border would work we will see.
For Slow Sunday Stitching with Kathy I will work on my crochet scarf where I left off on it the other day and maybe get some Daisy Chain blocks stamped? Not really sure on that – and I need to organize a little more today! I have not touched the organizing in the sewing room since last week! this is where I had left off on the scarf.
Or I will just sit and do more hand quilting – stitching from Friday night on the Retro Airship Propeller quilt — linking to Quilting is More Fun than Housework —

We’re now having that snowstorm, too, but it’s about 6 degrees out so the snow is very fluffy. Not good for snowmen! It looks like we had at least 6 inches overnight and it’s supposed to go on all day. No problem (unless the power goes out, which it rarely does) – lots to keep me busy indoors – quilting, knitting, reading. Pancakes for lunch – our tradition on snow days. Love hearing about your instant pot. And my Bluprint order (@$6 a yard!) arrived yesterday just as it was starting to snow.
I am amazed that it moved that fast! it has gotten down to 21 here this morning and it will be cold all week I think with maybe only a short warm up here and there.
The Bluprint orders seem to be arriving a lot faster than they used to – I always think $6 a yard sounds so good!
I love that final border on your quilt, they look like pyramids! And I love the look of that cheesecake too!! Keep warm and enjoy the snow!
yes I guess they do have a look of pyramids. I kept looking at them and think I don’t have enough that I will need to make more and then see in her instructions that we are to make corner units of just blue and neutral but I think I might need to do something to add to the end of the strips maybe to make them long enough – I will be a little short I think – maybe a thin strip of blue on each side before the corners will work – I will need to play with it this week to make it work
I love the way you are quilting the propeller quilt! I have a new instant pot too. So far, I have tried three recipes, all successful! I look forward to making some soup in it next.
I used the instant pot to make stew and my vegetable were softer than we like so I guess next time instead of the 35 minutes on the setting I need to set for 30 minutes and see how it is – I have used it a lot and only had 2 things over cook
We have snow here too, finally, but not very much. It’s a toasty -7 degrees out this morning. I have spent the last couple of days sewing. So many of my friends have Instant Pots, but I haven’t. I just don’t want another big thing to have to store, but maybe it would never get put away?! Anyway, I’m glad you are enjoying it. Your quilts look great!
I have no place to store this large instant pot! it has to stay in a corner of the countertop – which might be a good thing as I have been using it. One thing my daughter said was “make sure it doesn’t take you six months to try it out” so I guess maybe some get one and rarely use it? Now if we hadn’t expanded the kitchen a couple years ago I have no idea where some of this stuff would be stored LOL – I have run out of room and really need to look through my cupboards and see what I can get rid of.
We were lucky and didn’t get snow but it’s only 25 this am. I know they got snow in McKinny which is just north of us. I am glad the wind finally stopped. Love the second border you added really adds to the quilt. I got a Sous Vide for xmas that really takes some thought to use but I can see where it could come in handy.
I have never heard of Sous Vide and had to look it up to see – I can see where that could be handy but I find ziplock bags to leak often I wonder how good it is? do you have that problem – sometimes I will put a ziplock bag off frozen meat in a bowl of cold water to thaw during the day and when i go to use it the bag is full of water too! little leaks.
We don’t often have snow either, but I love when it happens! We has a light dusting over night and while it isn’t a winter wonderland, it sure is pretty! It seems like a good day to make a pot of soup in my crock pot…not instant pot…but it works well enough!
soup does sound good on a day like this – only 22 now it is not going up very fast but it is supposed to be sunny and it is beginning to be so that should help warm it up a little soon (I hope). It sounds like a lot of people got snow yesterday
I’m glad you’re liking your Instant Pot so much! The cheesecake looks yummy! Has it been a big learning curve to figure out how to use it? I suppose you can find lots of recipes to try out on the internet. Your border on Good Fortune is looking good! I had forgotten about those blocks.
there is an ap for the instant pot too for recipes. it is a bit of a learning curve I have found that if I make stew and use the pre-set button for that I need to take 5 minutes off next time as the veggies were too soft – the cheesecake was just right at the pre-set button though and so were baked beans. Just little things here and there – I really need to jot things down in a notebook until I remember how much time was best for certain things.
Hi Karen, I’m sending you a little Arizona sunshine;-) Cheesecake from a pot…interesting. We will have to try that. Your quilt keeps growing and gets lovelier with each new border.
do you have an instant pot? all you need is a 7 inch springform pan and a trivet inside to make the cheesecake.
Your snow looks amazing! Hope you were able to just enjoy it inside… seems like you were… we are having frigid weather and a dusting of snow only… we don’t get much snow here I think being in the mountains you would think we would though!
I love your scarf, and quilting progress… hope you get organizing done today and stamping if you find the time as well for later in the week…
So happy you are loving your instant pot! I have been watching some bluprint programs and enjoying them as I slow stitch… now time to get the binding put on 🙂 Kathi
I love looking at the snow but I did not go outside to enjoy it other than going on the porch to snap photos 🙂 it is frigid cold here today. I’m surprised you do not have snow being in the mountains – I guess it just missed your general area – ask your postman if you get it often in the winter – those postmen know all the local stuff!!
The instant pot is a success and I’m so glad Jessica gave it to us – I have loved it.
I doubt I will get around to stamping any daisy chain blocks – been too busy organizing the morning and ready for a break already lol and it is not even 10:30 — I think I will watch a show in awhile and crochet for a little bit and take a break from the organizing – I might get a border on the Mystery quilt maybe
That propeller quilt is so pretty with your stitches! Glad your daughter is on the mend and you get to enjoy the sight of snow for a little bit.
yes we are enjoying looking at the snow – but I’m ready for it to warm up now LOL – I just checked and it isn’t even 32 yet – it is 26 brrrr
We were cold too, 25 this morning, but now it’s 50 and sunny. I love your pictures of snow, so pretty. The cheesecake looks delicious, but I’ve never cared for it. Your Mystery quilt is looking so pretty with the blue/orange border. I love larger quilts too and am looking forward to seeing you enlarge it. I like that this quilt will be your own take on Bonnie’s too, because she always says make it your own. Love your quilting stitches on your Propeller quilt. Enjoy slow stitching.
I don’t know yet if I will make that quilt larger or not – not decided! I love cheesecake!
Isn’t it strange ~ living so close to one another and we only got a dusting of snow. But, that’s fine with me; things are so muddy here already it’s become really difficult to feed hay to the cattle. Probably couldn’t do it without the four wheel drive tractor.
I’d say about a third of the snow is melted but yes it is weird how you either get it or we do and only 25 miles apart or so!
Your hand quilting is progressing beautifully. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!
thanks Cynthia hand quilting is so peaceful to me I love to unwind at the end of the day at the frame
On your Good Fortune “pyramid” border. Could you remove the outermost gold triangles from each end….then measure the width that you are short (without them)…..and divide the shortness in 2…..and make two new gold triangles to attach to each end? They did make-do adjustments all the time on old quilts, and it is not easy to see in the finished quilt. Anyway, it’s just a suggestion. Very pretty quilt!
I’m not sure how short the borders will be – I possibly can make an extra piece for each end of the border and make a couple extra seams that are a little larger than a quarter inch and it will fit. I will be looking at it today to see what I can do
The snowy pictures look so pretty. My son received an Instapot as a Christmas gift from my daughter. He is experimenting with it. That cheesecake looks delicious. Good fortune is beautiful. I look forward to seeing what you add to make the size that you want. I love the yarn in your scarf. It looks so warm and cozy.
I might add a wide border all around in neutral piano keys but I’m really not sure right now. I will probably finish as the instructions and then wait a couple days and decide
the cheesecake was wonderful and easy to make
