The last of the roses have been cut – we are getting a cold blast of air from Canada this week – come Tuesday and Wednesday night we are to drop to the mid 20’s! kind of early for that really we haven’t even had a frost up here on the ridge yet. I thought I better get the last of the roses cut – not that I had much left but I why let them freeze if they can decorate the house for a short while. I have started to rake leaves a bit but then got to thinking about it – last year I raked because the lawn mower wasn’t working – it’s working this year what the heck was I thinking – I can mow a couple times and get it all done a lot faster! Maybe next weekend – bounding back to high 60’s! yes that sounds better.
Did you get much accomplished this weekend? I got some quilting done and yesterday I sewed a backing for the Child’s Play quilt. I had a piece big enough of a Riley Blake dotty fabric that I thought would go well with it but I did have to sew two pieces together.
I also got some more hexagons printed out and cut (the ones on the right side of the box) to continue work on the Diamonds are Forever quilt. I work on it off and on and needed more colors to mix in with what I have. I kind of think I will need to do this at least two or three more times before I get enough to start putting it all together! I need to sit down one day and figure out how many hexies will be in this quilt before it is done – right now I am thinking around 3000 – I’m pretty sure with the color prints it is a little over 2000 and then you need all the white to connect it all together – give me another year to get the top done ![]()
I entered the Quilters Gallery contest this week for Quilting Close Up – I entered my Red and Green Traditional Applique if you wish to give me a vote go to this link, my entry is the 20th one I believe – it says Red and Green Traditional Applique and blog Quilts …etc. thanks

I noticed a rose on my little bush when I was out Sat. It was beyond its prime though. You definitely needed to pick them before the cold blast this week. Mowing over the leaves is the best, returning to the soil where they are needed.
I love the fabrics you are using for Child’s Play. A little different pallet than you usually use.
Enjoy those fall leaves while you can!
You said you got the hexies printed and cut??? I can’t wait to see more of your hexie project.
The roses are so pretty … ours quit blooming a while back … and it’s going to get down below 20 tomorrow night here in south-central Illinois. Brrrrrrr
