The weekend was nice! Up to 61 degrees yesterday out here. I was working in a long sleeve t-shirt – I started with a sweat shirt and had to take that layer off! I was outside getting some work done but still had time to do some quilting – I can’t work for hours and hours outside or I get too sore – I was clearing out dead leaves from several areas in the yard. All the dead stuff has to be blown out of this area with the blower – I will do that another day – it is supposed to rain today – I can do it next week – or the week after – no rush! This green ground cover stays green all year round – we aren’t that early ![]()
So many dead leaves blew against the side of the work shop – that is ok, it helps to protect the plants – the yellow is the daffodils – they just needed some sunlight to turn green – they would have eventually grown though the leaves – I just help them along.
A close up of that area – a few weeds here and there need to be pulled out and there are a few iris’s growing also.
More iris’s growing in this area – you can see the new growth here.
One more Granny block done this weekend – that makes 33 total –
I also worked on the baby quilt a little bit starting to put rows together. Instead of cutting half square triangles I am cutting squares – some waste – yes and you have to make sure you have a quarter inch seam allowance left over so you don’t cut off squares – but I have done it this way before and if you are careful it works out just fine. I will need to lay this out on the floor soon for a better photo. I need to make more 4 patches today.
We have tree pollen alerts already and I can tell – I have been sneezing and blowing my nose for days now! I love the signs of springs coming but not the allergies that come with it
can’t have everything can we!
Craftsy has a blog – I hadn’t really looked at it much until fairly recently. I was looking at it yesterday and saw this cute post on pet patterns. 8 Pet Quilt Patterns to Celebrate the Love of Your 4-Legged Friend I don’t have a pet right now but I love cats and thought this one was really cute. I thought some of you might like it too.

We’re getting rain today … freezing rain until it warms up at about noon. Ugh
I need to get out and prune back my roses … but it’s going to have to get warmer than is the forecast for this coming week (50’s, which is much warmer than we’ve been having but still not quite warm enough for me).
I’ve done setting triangles the same way … I never use patterns, so if I decide to set my blocks on point, I’d have to do the math to figure out how big to make my setting triangles. It was easier and quicker to just make the squares and cut them off. As you said, there’s some waste, but those pieces went back into my stash, so there’s not that much waste. 😉
I’m so glad your weather is finally starting to warm up, and that you can see signs of Spring. We have already reached the 80’s.
I transplanted some iris in the fall of 2012.I am hoping for blooms this year.
Ok so there is hope that Spring will actually come sooner or later !! Love the granny square and the four patch blocks. I’ve got a tub of 2.5 in squares and think I need to give that a try! Love it.
Spring coming? Here are signs from yesterday that it isn’t too far away: robins in the yard and three flies in the kitchen!
Kudos for working on your gardens! It didn’t rain this weekend, but I still managed to think of an excuse to not weed. The Red Cat Blue Cat quilt looks fun. Thanks for the news about Craftsy patterns for pets.
Wow — I can’t believe you have shoots already — our little shoots are buried under a foot of snow. Like you though, we’re expecting a big warm up this week, so all that snow should be melted by the end of the week. Love your blocks — you have so many on the go!
I think you should add some kitties to your baby quilt the pattern looks like your quilt in a lot of ways.
Spring coming your side! 🙂 Still hot and humid here, one more month to go and it starts to cool down. I haven’t done many setting triangles without pattern, but I think now I have finally figured out the math… if I remember until next time! 🙂
Wow! Green! I know that somewhere beneath all of that snow, my tulips are starting to come up. In the meantime, we’re getting another 4 inches tomorrow. I really like that baby quilt – our family is expecting a little girl this summer and I can’t decide on a pattern . . . take care, Byrd
oh, how I long for some green growing stuff! (not the things I find forgotten in my fridge). I love the great granny squares, I’m making them for my 3014 Rainbow Scrap Challenge.
Lovely colourful baby quilt. It’s going to make a baby smile.
It hit 72 yesterday, boy it was gorgeous! On top of a great weekend 🙂 Our daffodils are peeking through too. You are going to town on those quilts!
It’s really warm in the south for a few days, too! First of next week back to the 50’s. I can’t wait to retire and get that bed in to get some planted!!! And I can’t wait to get my herbs in the ground! Quilts looking good!
It’s amazing to me that people are able to work in their gardens in February. I guess I’m a died-in-the-wool northern girl. Spring is nice to think about tho.
