Patchwork

Yesterday afternoon seeing as I have hardly started on the quilting for the Patchwork of the Crosses I thought I needed to sit for a little bit and quilt – this much done – this one will be going much slower than the last one did.  On that one I wanted to get it finished as I hadn’t been enjoying it and I just wanted to get it done.  On this one I am letting my quilting fingertips have a little bit of a break while the Olympics are on and will work on this off and on but concentrate more on my hand piecing this week.  I have not quite decided how I will be quilting the rest of this quilt! just the border so far – I am deciding as I go.  Because this fabric is so much easier to quilt through I am trying to take smaller stitches and more uniform – the quilting on the last one had bigger stitches and were not consistent.

Yesterday morning I worked at the sewing machine and got one more Granny Square done and some more leaders and enders.

The Design Wall!  it is getting filled up.  Right now I am still aiming for 36 blocks and will decide then if I want to get more back ground fabric and continue on – in a way I do – if I don’t I will need to add sashing and border to get it to a decent size for a bed quilt. I really like it like this though so I think I might be checking Hobby Lobby soon – the background is Kona Cotton Snow – I don’t know if they have that shade – if not I will need to order it.  Six rows both ways will be 72 x 72 inches which is not big enough for a queen size bed!

I saw this idea on Pinterest and might use it for the leaders and enders – kind of cute I thought.  You could really make this into any size that you want – your white squares are the same size as your four patch blocks are – in my case 3 inches and then you need to figure out your corners and half square triangles – could be a baby quilt or a large quilt – any size you want.  I printed it out so I won’t forget the idea and put in the box with the patches – they are growing aren’t they!

I will show more progress on the Hexies – Diamonds are Forever tomorrow.  I am working on the row Monday night and might get the row attached while watching the Olympics – and maybe not! one can never tell – it depends on what they have on it that I want to pay close attention to.

Good nice on the storm front, last night on the news it was beginning to sound more and more like the major part of the storm was going to pass us to the south – when I wake up this morning I’m sure I will be looking out the window quickly to see what we do or don’t have out there – we got above freezing 2 days in a row and the trees that had ice on them finally had the big melt up here on the ridge – still plenty on the ground but disappearing fast – or not? depends on what I wake up to Smile

I love hand quilting progress. It’s 21 below here right now heading for 15 above today. It’s supposed to warm up daily the rest of the week. But that means snow. I love Pinterest. The granny Square project is coming along. If you want more size you could kick around sashing or borders. FatQuarterShop.com has been show some neat grannysquare pics.

The hand quilting looks awesome!! I have no doubt that the rest of the quilt will be, too. Why don’t you make the granny squares into a twin size?

I like your Leaders and Enders idea. And of course, TPOTC is still my most favorite. I love the quilting design you are using, too.

If you are like me you are looking for leaders and ender projects all the time. I think I have three going right now as I sew.

I loved your blurb about the woodpecker. I have one or two of the redheaded woodpeckers who come to my feeders. They are almost never seen on feeders. But here they were on mine!

I love your innovative guy though!

Hi Karen your Granny squares are growing so quickly, careful or you will finish them LOL. They do look lovely on your wall. Thanks for sharing the link on pinterest. I’m off to sew and watch the winter games too. Cheers Glenda

How funny… I haven’t had time to post Karen, but I have a little table runner from scraps on my floor right now with the same layout! LOL I’ll try and post a picture today. I laid it out on point.

How ’bout putting the Granny Squares on point for the extra width? Just sayin’. Really haven’t done the math to see what the result would be.
How’s the Juki???? It sure made piecing the Stained Glass quilt a breeze (chain piecing with the thread-cutter feature is so time saving!!!!). Your tiny stitches are amazing!!!! This is going to be an awesome finish!!!!! I haven’t even glanced at the Olympics and, for me, that’s really unusual……The winter version is my fave. No desire, though. I do hope that the brunt of the weather avoids your corner of the world!!! Hugs…………

Oh, my! Patchwork of the Crosses is just beautiful, and your stitches look fantastic. Can’t wait to see more emerge. 🙂
