Hexies

Finally I got back to my hexies yesterday.  I thought I really need to make at least a little bit of progress on this one so it couldn’t be called a UFO – I do not call my neglected projects UFO’s because they are always WIP – works in progress Smile I am linking to Judy at Patchwork Times today

I am attaching the 7th diagonal row of “Diamonds are Forever”.  I will need to add a little bit of white to the ends though.  I was cutting the pattern just a tad short so I wasn’t sure how I was going to be ending these rows – this is the first to get to the longest point so now I can figure that out.  When I get done with all of the rows and attach them I will then know for sure what size this will turn out to be and decide if there will be an applique border – an applique border would give it a very old fashioned look I think.  Maybe I will be done with this one by the end of the year?  Don’t know right now — I just work on it now and then.  I will keep it out for a couple days and continue to attach this row while the news is on in the evening – even though I never like the news it is a routine and I watch it and hand stitch and curse at the politicians at the same time LOL

More Prairie Points made for the 3rd border of “Granny’s Got Style”, I think I have enough and hope to work on pinning them to the border today.

A little bit of spring brought into the house yesterday.  The earliest of the daffodils have already died off and these are the next variety’s that are now flowering – I have at least 2 to 3 areas of the yard that will have more daffodils come up in the next month.

When you are quilting do you usually have the next quilt top picked out to work on next?  I have one more quilt top waiting in line to be quilted – I will have more by time the POTC quilt is finished but I have decided that next up is the second Dear Jane quilt that I made – I finished it at the end of 2010!! it’s about time to get it on the quilt frame finally.  I just hadn’t been in the mood to quilt it for some reason, but it will be next.  I will show it tomorrow.   This one is a two color quilt – red batik – a Princess Mirah fabric and a buttercream water color batik ( a hint of yellow in it instead of a red/white combo)

A very special thanks to everyone who stopped by leaving comments  for the Giveaway!!  Your comment might not show up immediately – if you have never left a comment or it has been a long time since you did I need to approve the comment first – I check periodically throughout the day so your comment will show up eventually. image The giveaway continues through the rest of the month with the winner being selected on April 1st.  Go to this link to leave a comment and read the post to be put in to the drawing for the Prairie Pointer pressing tool.

For those of you who like Craftsy classes there is a new workshop starting in April hosted by Tula Pink – “April Mystery Quilting Workshop”– fabric is included in the total price – 3 fabric rolls (like a jelly roll but I think they have 30 strips?) and 3-1/2 yard cuts.  30% off right now putting it at $87.99

What fabric are you using for your white? Kona cotton, white on white print or something else? I have heard mixed reviews of Kona.

I am using Kona cotton snow – it is what I had on hand – I prefer Moda Bella fabric for my solids, Kona unravels a little and Bella doesn’t as much but I have to order it.

Your hexies are gorgeous! The more you add, the more beautiful it becomes! There is always a top in line for the hoop….actually, there are always a few!

Your hexie project is amazing. It reminds me of one of my grandma’s quilts…brings back memories.

Be careful not to stab your finger while cursing politicians! Your quilt is amazing~I love the progress just a little stitching time makes with WIPs. Love the prairie points, they are making a great border.

Love your hexie project. My has stalled….You have daffodils already, nice!! We’re suppose to get more snow tomorrow so still going to be a while before we see ours. Thanks for sharing your little piece of spring time

I was thinking of working on a Hexie project, but have just purchased a different shape to do some English Paper Piecing. Still not sure of the design yet though. I need to think on it a few more days. Love how yours is turning out 🙂

I’m still thinkin’ that an applique border would be so perfect! I’m always at least 1 quilt ahead of what I’m doing!!!!!

I try not to have a pile of quilts waiting to be quilted … I don’t want to have to try to choose which one(s) to work on not to mention that I’m usually anxious to see the flimsies “come to life” with quilting that I keep working until I get the quilt quilted and bound before starting on the next one. But I think that will be a thing of the past … I’ve already got 2 hexagon projects I’m working on while quilting my Storm at Sea at the same time … and I probably won’t get the SaS quilted before it will be time to start working on my daughter’s herringbone. There are just not enough hours in the day … although next Monday will be my last day at my morning “gig” … I should have more time to quilt once I’m not at DD’s most all morning. 😉

Wow — your hexies are really coming along — and looking great! And you’re SO lucky to have flowers already!

I usually have a few tops in the wings waiting to be quilted, but usually another idea comes along and cuts in line and I have to work on that. I’m interested in your experience with hand-quilting batiks. I’ve done a few and can’t exactly say I’d do another. Nice work on your hexes! Take care, Byrd

LOL — you made me snort my pepsi at the cursing at the politicians comment. Nice to see your daffodils in bloom too. Oh, and I love the applique border you showed on your most recent post….it will be a perfect choice for the border! 🙂
