Floral Fantasy

Floral Fantasy is now ready for stitching.  The entire border applique is glue basted in place.  I might have to move something here and there while I stitch and pin in place but overall this is is.  Keep in mind pieces will be smaller than they now appear as they have the seam allowance showing.  It will take awhile for the applique to be finished – give me a couple months at least if not more as I will continue to work on other projects in process.

Part of my process includes rulers!

Picture from the book – glue, scissors to trim here and there were needed, long nose tweezers – things I use to make the job go smoothly.

Once I figure out where I want the pieces the glue goes on in dots – a little will hold it and if it does come loose sometime while I’m working – that is ok, just reapply.

The applique was all prepped off and on yesterday during the day.  I continue to work on my Diamonds are Forever quilt off  and on  – I just don’t show it often as I haven’t really been working hard on it!  Here is a start on the 8th diagonal row.

009

More work on Patchwork of the Crosses almost every night.  This is part of Row 5 that I worked on Monday night.

Little quilting will get done today – near 70 today!  After several chilly windy days I’m ready for an outside day.  I am linking to Esther’s blog  and Freshly Pieced Modern  and Sew Fresh Quilts today if you want to look at some pretties

So, does this mean your quilting slows way down in the summer? You provide such amazing inspiration — I would say “slow and steady wins the race” but there’s nothing slow about your progress. Steady though. And a little everyday and before you know it you’re done. Fantastic!

Oh my gosh Karen your Floral Fantasy is Divine!!!!! I could almost see this hanging in a Huge cathedral entrance. I sure hope it ends up hanging in some very large area so it can be admired by many. Cheers Glenda

We’ll get into the 70’s tomorrow – yay! It will be the first day in almost 3 weeks where I didn’t have something that I had/needed to do … my plan was to spend the day getting reacquainted with my needle and thread, but since it will be so nice, I ought to get outside and spread some mulch, etc. Or maybe just sit out on the deck and work with my hexies. 😉

Wow … your Floral Fantasy is spectacular!

Hi Karen! In your tonight’s post (in Spain is night when your post arrives) I’ve learned how to sew needle turn appliqué. If I have seen it right you mark the appliqué forms on the right side of the fabric and then you glue bast it and that way you sew it easily. I was thinking about sewing another quilt I have already cut sewing some needle turn appliqué. Great!. Most of what I’ve learned about quilting has been self taught in internet through tutorials and video tutorials. Thanks very much for the quilting lesson, love!

Beautiful Karen, I really think that black background with the streak is awesome.

Karen, I love your floral fantasy quilt. I have never used glue to baste like that may have to try that today. I am working on some layered flowers and the thread getting caught on my pins almost drove me batty yesterday. Thanks for showing your process. Do you have any problems with your marks rubbing off your applique pieces when you prepare the whole quilt ahead of time?

Wow your Floral Fantasy is gorgeous and so are your other projects. Beautiful.

When I use Glue Baste It, sometimes the glue tip doesn’t allow me to get any out. I have to really really squeeze the bottle to get any. The tip is not dried up, but my hand gets so tired. Any suggestions?
