With Patchwork of the Crosses coming soon to an end it really is time to get the border cut for “Insanity Revisited” and sewed onto to this quilt and the scallops drawn in place so it will be ready to quilt! I finished this top such a long time ago – it really is pitiful that it has been sitting aside for so long while I was finishing other quilts. I think by time I got done with it I was sick of it LOL. I finished the top – would you believe – December 20, 2010 – I know crazy that I have put it aside for so long. I found the perfect wide back for it about 2 years ago – on sale – and the thread – on sale and still it sat. I started to piece it April 12, 2008 – I finished it far faster than I did the first one I made. The first one took me a hundred hours longer to piece 490 hours and 40 minutes!! this second one ONLY took 392 hours and 30 minutes
– I guess I learned some short cuts along the way !! determination!
In a couple weeks it will be on the frame. “Insanity Revisited”
The cream color will be the scallop border – the red is the backing. I draw the scallops on the cream and do not cut it out until the quilting it done – easier to attach to the frame this way.
The red has been pre washed and I admit I don’t do that all the time. I have very rarely ever had colors bleed that I admit to only prewashing red, very dark blues ect. I put color catchers in with this back and it didn’t bleed at all! This color looks a little too red on my computer screen.
The thread is a red/cream variegated from YLI – it actually says machine quilting on it but it feels nice and strong and I think it will work out great. It is 100% cotton thread.
Saturday night I finished the area of Patchwork of the Crosses that I said I would and then I unhooked it from the 3rd rail so I could roll it all the way back to where I had forgotten to quilt it on the borders and made good fast progress with it.
If you look on the gray hexagon you will see the one line of quilting this is what I forgot to do on both sides I did it on the very first border that I had put it on and then forgot! I will have worked more on it last night and I imagine I get caught back up and get back to work on the last border.

I’m in love with your Dear Jane #2!!! I just plain LOVE it! It’s inspiring me to give serious consideration it making a Dear Jane. 😉
Wow! I wish I would finish my first Dear Jane. Great job!
Looks like you love all KINDS of insanity type quilts!! HA My poor DJ has suffered the same fate for YEARS! I had it basted by a longarmer thinking I’d someday handquilt it–NOT HAPPENING!! Maybe someday I’ll get it out, look it over and see what I need to do to get it finished. MAYBE….
I’ve been seeing a few Dear Jane and Farmer’s wife and gypsy wife quilts around the web lately and every time, I think I should make one too, lol! Yours is stunning! I love that it is a red and white. Is it batik? How do you keep track of how many hours it took to make it?
Frustrating when you forget the stitching and have to go back. Somehow it does make us more determined to plow through and get it done though! Love the Dear Jane. So incredible that you made two of them. The red and cream just makes for a wonderful quilt with all the focus on the details!
It’s gorgeous!!! Every time I see a pretty DJ or FW, I think I need to make one….then reality hits and I realize I must be content to live vicariously through you talented people! Nicely done-glad it’s becoming a finished piece of art!
Hi Karen! I have a small quilt (perfect as a coach quilt) ready to be quilted since……2.006!. It was my very first quilt (I’ll show it one day in my blog) all appliqué and for being the first one people told me it was very nice. But it was so much appliqué that I felt fed up of it and there it is eight years later waiting to be quilted and binded. One day!

Here’s an idea foryour Diamonds are Forever border http://www.kellyskwilts.com/2014/05/19/its-been-awhile-4/ 😀
I just washed a red print batik and the color catcher turned out just as red as the fabric. Do you think I should wash it again? I’m nervous about using it…
Your cream and red Dear Jane is gorgeous!
I love, love love your quilt. I think that sometimes to finish a top we have to let it rest and then fall in love with it again. I love your tip on scalloped edges AFTER you long arm it. Thanks! lovely quilts
Vicki I am a hand quilter not a long armer — I do have a 3 roller hand quilting frame
I made two of these in the kaffe fassett and batiks. Loved how they turned out. It was a challenge to finish but I did it under a year. You will be thrilled when it is done!
I really love the read and cream Insanity revisited. I may have to put this one on my bucket list.
