Pinterest and Quilting

Do you have a Pinterest page? and do you agree that it sucks up your time something awful!  I resisted Pinterest for the longest time then I got started and haven’t stopped.  I limit my time (most of the time that is) or I wouldn’t have time for anything else.  Most times I intend to just spend 5 minutes or so looking at things and before you know it an hour has passed and I have added 10 more recipes to my “must try recipe” file and ten more quilts that I love to my “quilts” file – you get the picture – I have so many things “pinned” that I don’t even know why I am pinning – I do not very often go back in and look at them! 780 quilts in my quilt file!!  I know I get inspired but really I know I will never in my biggest dreams make more than 5 or more of these.  My “on the road” file is kind of small right now – only 87 Smile that will grow at the end of the summer when we travel.

So what did I do yesterday besides “pin” – I did wander the yard and looked plants over, applied a little “poison ivy” control — it gets out of hand at times with all these trees around – I actually have some growing in the flower beds now!  If some of the plants die around them so be it – the ivy had to go!  I tried my best to just get the ivy.

I did get some more hexies done on “Diamonds are Forever” Slowly but surely this quilt is getting done – there is something about hexies that draws you in and you get to where you have to finish the darn quilt even if it takes you two or three years to do it.  My folded up quilt top is started to get too big for the box and I think I am in need of a new container for it – I drag it with me to Friday morning quilt group and the occasional first Thursday night of the month group “Cuttin Loose” is what that group is called.  Sometimes I am attaching a row so the quilt top has to stay with it.  Linking to Kathy’s Quilts, Slow Stitching Sunday

I made 13 more blocks and the quilt is now 7 x 7 rows – or 56 x 56 inches – one more row in width and 2 in length I think and then some kind of border.  I have two favorites among the name suggestions – 1 – “Stairs Through The Stars” and 2 – “Butterflies in Flight” – I thought I had decided on #1 then #2 was suggested and I’m trying to make up my mind Smile maybe my mind will be made up by time the quilt is done.  By the way someone asked are the blocks all staying where they are now? Not sure – I will finish all the blocks up and then step back and decide.

And just a little more quilting was done on Friday night on Insanity Revisited I am trying to stay steady on this quilt as I did the previous but I think I got a little burned out on the Patchwork of the Crosses – in the past year I managed to hand quilt a lot of quilts rather quickly since last year in June I finished 4  quilts on the quilting frame!  That is a lot of quilting in a year and that doesn’t even count the smaller ones done in the hoop – time to slow down? this Dear Jane quilt just might take longer than what I have been doing.  I will be gone for August and September I do believe and no quilting will get done then so it will be fall or maybe the beginning of winter before this one gets done.

Have a good Father’s Day everyone!

I really love Pinterest. It’s the best bookmark site that I’ve used. I traded my Candy Crush time for Pinterest!

You are doing such beautiful quilting on your Insanity Revisited quilt.

All good things come in time and it will be so worth it. Little bits of time add up.

I refuse to spend much time visiting the Pinterest site … I do pin stuff I see, knowing that I’ll probably never get back to look through all that I’ve pinned.

My original intention was to only work on my hexie quilt when we were traveling, but like you said, the hexies drew me in … not only am I making the quilt much larger than originally planned, I have to fight the urge to work on them only!

You are always such an inspiration for me, esp. on rainy, chilly mornings like today when it’s difficult to get motivated. I’ve been trying to limit my Pinterest exposure! I don’t pin as much anymore, realizing I need to follow guidelines for why I pin something.

I have resisted Pinterest for many reasons… I’d rather quilt!
Don’t you love it when a project progresses so much that it outgrows it’s container?!?!
Enjoy your slow stitching and thanks for linking up!

I have a Pinterest acct and pin quilt photos and recipes but try not to go there as you say it sucks up your time. I also spent way too much time on the quilting groups on facebook. I need to get my Library card renewed and download some audio books get so much more done than. You are making great progress on your projects. As for poison ivy I am highly allergic and ended up in the Hospital the day after Thanksgiving a few years ago. I agree it needs to die.

When I saw your latest quilt I thought of ‘ Mosquito’s on the road’ . I wonder how you get so much done in so little time.
When I spent a day quilting and look at what I have done…… Unbelievable.( Don’t know if I wrote that right.)

I do love Pinterest! So many good quilts to pin for later inspiration and I do actually go back and view the quilts every now and then! Some quilt names are just hard–take your time!

I’m still on the fence about Pinterest. I’m resisting it, although I do take a glance here and there . . . Take care, Byrd

Oh yeah, pinterest is amazing isn’t it? My daughters husband isn’t a big fan, she keeps finding projects for him thanks to pinterest! I actually do go back to the boards especially when I am going to start a new quilt (I check my “quilts I have to make” board) or custom quilting on a quilt and I get stumped. My quilting inspiration board has helped me out many times. So there is good to be had there eventually 🙂 Love your hexies and the progress on Dear Jane.

I love pinterest. I don’t spend much time repinning, I use it as a pinboard for things I find when hopping around blogs. I don’t intend to make everything on my boards (there’s about 20k pins!), but I like to have them there in case I DO want to make one of them… it’s a great reference.

I have been following you and your work for a while now and am in awe of the quality of your work as well as its quantity! I have a 3 pole system Grace frame and I am left handed. I have a quilt on the frame that has been on it for years…literally. I was wondering how you quilt in the differing directions? I seem to do fine left to right but after that, problems ensue! Any tips or suggestions? I do have one of those spoons like you use in my quilting gadget box. I could sure use a tutorial or a book with some help. Thanks so much for the inspiration and the help you give so freely. It is a joy to visit your blog….like tea with a close friend!

That new quilt looks wonderful — you’re rally knocking those blocks out!

And I pin. Like you, way too much. I do occasionally go back to my boards though, for inspiration. Or when I’m looking for something. My quilt board is WAY too big now though — I need to take some time and break it into smaller boards to make it easier to find stuff.
