A Last Minute Gift

tn_FreeVintageImagesofChristmasClipArt33_jpgMelanie (our daughter)  mentioned last week that she wanted to make a gift for Aniya, her 3 year old great niece and sent me a link to it – “can you help” “can I use your sewing machine” – “can you show me how to use your sewing machine”  LOL   So last night when Melanie came over to visit and eat supper with us and afterwards we got down to work.  So here is a link to the Easy on the Pocket Crayon Wallet.  I had the fabric cut out in advance as that is not something Melanie really likes to do – we discussed color and I sent her some photos of fabric in advance to pick out what she wanted from the stash.  I am linking to Sew Fresh Quilts today and Sew Cal Girl.

So here is my daughter’s first sewing machine project ever – yes I know I have had a machine in the house since she was a baby and now she is – 41 — and never used a machine before.  And she had fun – I wonder if I can get her to try to piece a quilt now?  It turned out really well and she caught on pretty fast – even though I was standing at her shoulder with constant words of advice “watch your fingers” being one of them and “slower” LOL

Earlier in the day Aniya came over with Melanie to give us a gift – cookies in a mason jar – her mother said that Aniya did all the work and it looks so good all you do is add and egg and some oil then bake – I might actually save that one to make for a couple weeks as we have a lot of cookies around here right now.  We sent a box of giant Lego’s home with her – I had been in the workshop earlier in the week looking for Christmas lights for the darn tree and saw that I still had a box of the toys that the grandkids used to use – and those Lego’s are old as they were purchased from the Goodwill type store when they were little.  A 3 year old went home happy and I got rid of something in the workshop that we didn’t need anymore.  They weren’t heirloom toys and I knew they wouldn’t care that they were passed on to another child.

On Monday night I got a little more of Insanity Revisited – Dear Jane done – I just have a little left on the end to finish up before I can roll it down and start on the last border!!  So close.

The sun came out briefly yesterday – just a little bit for about 30 minutes or so late afternoon but it was so nice to see that I had to take a photo

Merry Christmas to all of you on the other side of the world that are a bit ahead of us in time and happy Christmas Eve to the rest of you.

That crayon wallet is just adorable.

When my kids were little I thought Legos were pretty expensive. NOW it’s even worse. She got a great gift! 🙂

Merry Christmas, Karen, and I look forward to seeing your beautiful work in the new year.
It’s always wonderful to teach another person the gift of sewing.

Merry Christmas to you and your family Karen! We plan to enjoy the great weather and decided to go out for Chinese tomorrow. Hopefully that means more stitching time.

Merry Christmas! My turkey is in the oven and I’m taking a bit of a coffee break from working on the Bonnie Hunter mystery quilt. I live your Dear Jane in reds so much, I may have to put it on my bucket list :). How are you marking for the hand quilting? Is that one of those fading ink pens?
