Butter Churn Basics

That is the name of a new bundle of background fabric that I have purchased for the Caswell Quilt.  The fabric is from Kim Diehl.  These are half yard cuts.

They will go with these 3 that I pulled off of my shelves.  Now I don’t know why but I’m sure some of you will think some of them are too dark – they aren’t – trust me.

Here are just two pages of the sets of patterns – you can see how in the pattern I purchased the background fabrics are a variety and they are all quite tan.  Different versions have been made of course, some have alternating blocks in tan and cream, some all dark and some a big mixture.   You just have to make sure you pick out good colors for the applique – nothing too light – you have to make sure the applique stands out.  I am not sure when I will get started on my blocks – so many quilts in the making right now – we will see – will I just jump on in or wait a little bit?  I’m really not sure at this point.

A little more of my circle of stars getting done – truthfully I didn’t do that much Friday – if you look at the previous post you will see little got done on this part of La Passacaglia.

Thursday nights quilting session on Granny

I am hoping that I will get done with this section Friday night (while I am writing this that was my plan).  Then I will get it rolled down and start again.

So inspired after seeing your photos. I love that your backgrounds aren’t carbon copies of the original. It’s going to be beautiful. Love the hand quilting. I have to get busy. Knock out the chores and move onto fun stuff!

The background fabrics are beautiful. They will be great for your new applique quilt. I’ve been admiring that pattern on the Homestead Hearth website.

I love those Kim Diehl neutrals! Yum!! I ordered a half yard bundle of Primitive Gatherings’ neutrals and am thinking now that maybe I need to order a half yard bundle of Kim’s. I’m trying not to buy more fabric, but honestly the majority of my neutrals bin is fabric that I am seriously not too likely to use (more floral-y prints and a lot of WoWs [the painted variety] … the first 25+ years I quilted, none of the local shops carried prim or repro fabrics).

I have just started following your blog–I even went back and read your archives. You do such a great job blogging and quilting. We have lots in common–baking, gardening, canning. I would be interested in starting my own blog and wondered if you have any advice for a newbie.

Love your background colors. Seems like auditioning/selecting fabrics could take awhile so I wouldn’t necessarily count that part as starting. I do see all your hopping around though. I’m guilty too as decisions along the way stop me so I move on to others while thinking. Enjoy your day!

The stars around the rosette are looking good… and you are really moving along on quilting Granny’s Got Style. I wish I could get as much done as you do!!

I love KimDiehl’s fabrics! I am more of a clear bright color person so can never duplicate her look. Still, I am always drawn to her patterns. So I love you choices for Caswell!

Love your fabrics, and good luck with the quilt. It looks lovely. What do you mark your quilting lines with and do you mark before basting or after?

Love those neutral fabrics. That pattern will be a lot of work but I know you’ll will be finished before I can bat my eye.
