Quilting and Stitchery

A busy day it was.  According to the weathermen who were building up the suspense of a bad storm for about 3 days now — we were supposed to have bad storms yesterday but they passed us by with out a drop – there was an opening in the front that came through and went right around our little town – that is ok, I didn’t want bad storms.  I hear a lot of places had hail and the storm was still going through eastern Arkansas as I sat down last night to type in my post.

I got done with more yard work yesterday and I’m almost ready to mulch up all the leafs that I raked and pulled out of the beds.  I’ll be glad when I get done – another day or two and I think it will be done.  I need to go shopping today for a new stove – my current stove has had problems one after another the past couple years and it is time to do something about it.   I don’t want to try to have Mike fix it one more time – I’m not even sure how old it is – I have had it for a long time – sometimes it is best to just stop the repairs and get a new appliance.

I cleared off the design wall and put Love Entwined up there to keep reminding myself to make flowers.  I think I will keep the design wall for applique right now as I am about to start the Caswell Quilt and I can keep putting blocks up on the wall to keep them stored flat.

Slowly this vase will get filled up and then I will start on another.

I got another 10 x 10 row sewed and attached to the big piece that had been up on the wall and then got the two big sections sewed together – it now measures 40 x 106 and it needs to be 100 x 106 – so I have a little more work to do LOL – I decided it is getting too heavy for the design wall so I will now keep it folded and laying over the quilting frame.  Tumbling into Insanity is coming along.  I will photo it on the floor every now and then as it grows.  I am really in no big rush to complete this quilt as there are two quilt tops waiting in line to be quilted as it stands.  Really all the projects I am working on right now can move slowly – no rush!!  I am linking to Confessions of a Fabric Addict today and Crazy Mom Quilts.

This is the first rosette for La Passacaglia – I took all the papers out of it and it will now be hand stitched instead of EPP – the ends look a little ragged and I might need to replace the pieces on the ends so that I will be able to sew the next section on but I will develop a wait and see attitude on that and decide when I get to it.   I will get out the starch and iron tomorrow and see what happens to it.  The ends might press out just fine.

Melanie was over last night for visiting and supper.  This is the current stitching she is doing while we watch the series Outlander.

This is the book she is working with.

Our storms were much ado about nothing, too. Unfortunately, it sounds like the northern part of Illinois wasn’t so lucky.

I can’t wait to see your start on that Caswell quilt!

I just purchased that series at Walmart not too long ago! I recall reading the books years ago, if it is the ones that I am thinking of.

You sure don’t shy away from challenges Karen! These projects all look amazing though. i am particularly fond of tumbler quilts! I like that you are taking it slow and easy and enjoying the process.

Glad you are making headway on clearing away winter.. now if spring would just stay.. seems weird to still need a bit of heat on my legs when I wake up in the mornings… once the sun comes up it is back to Florida’s regular heat and humidity this time of year! lol I love all your quilty progress! You are doing such great work.. and I love how Melanie’s work is similar in design to patchwork choices too! Have a great day Karen!

And all of a sudden it seems like the tumblers have multiplied like rabbits! We were supposed to get bad storms too, but it seems like it was just a bit of rain. Have a good weekend!
